A senior from a Texas high school will not be going to his graduation ceremony after designing 3D levels of his school in a shooting game.

Officers came into his home and reportedly found five swords which they deemed a level 3 terrorist threat. Since then, the unnamed man had been transferred to an "alternate education facility"

I did a map of our neighborhood in original Doom.
Does that mean I want demons to invade our neighborhood?

Taps.

An announcement that the venerable Bunker Hill Military Academy, a 141 year old institute, is to be torn down and replaced with condos sets off the young cadets led by their stodgy commander (George C. Scott). Under the command of a student cadet major (Timothy Hutton), the cadets seize the campus, refuse entry of the construction crews and ultimately confront the real military.

What would YOU think if you found a shooting game on your son's or daughter's computer and your home was the floorplan?

See my above post. In the case of my daughter, I would imagine she had thought about fields of fire in an emergency situation as she has been taught. She understands which light silhouttes what areas.

“Counter-Strike puts a team of counter-terrorists against a team of terrorists in rounds of competition won by completing an objective or eliminating the opposing force.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counter-Strike

Seems to shoot holes through the prosecution’s rationale.

And, why not design a “playground” based on a building you know? I really can’t see anything suprising about students building a scenario based on their school given current events. A “what would you do” exercise in critical thinking if there ever was one — completely contrary to the rule of public education/indoctrination.

Yup, sure been a huge surge in sword wielding terrorist attacks around the world! Last I heard of sword wielding killings was in the Rwanda slaughter of the 90's, and that was not terrorism, just plain old tribal warfare.

You just can't cure stupid!

If she models our house should I expect the Umbrella Corporation to come through my window?

Under President for Life Hillary Rodham Clinton and Vice President for Life Barack Hussein Obama, probably yes.

Who’d have thought that Patrick Swayze playing the role of a man would be the least controversial part of this one years down the road?

Plot summary for
Red Dawn (1984)

At the outbreak of World War III, midwestern high school students turned refugees slowly organized themself into an effective guerilla force to turn back the tide of Soviet invaders.

If your non gaming neighbors saw it ... I don't know ... like I implied ... a school found a shooting game using itself as a planform ... you're a player ... reverse rolls.

If I found a shooting game on one of my kids computers (I have the only, well passworded machine in the house) ... I'd, at the minimum, have a fast enough heart rate to warrant some sort of action.

(It's this stuff that keeps me from getting my kids .. girl 16, boy 13 ... they're own machine.)

Like my pastor says ... of course I trust you ... I don't trust your flesh.

Err on the side of righteousness.

The over reactions are happening all over the place since VA. Tech, and little kids are being removed from classrooms for drawing a gun. But consider the hindsight if this kid in Texas went nutso in the school with his sword or other weapon. Either way it has become a tough call.

Article doesn’t say if the young man was arrested. I assume a level 3 terror threat is an arrestable offense.

Well, these folks are about to embark on the ride of their lives. They will need community support (including funds) to fight this. Their son will have to endure alternative educational facilities which include some real sterling fellow-students. The faculties of these schools are outstanding — his grades should soar — not that it matters this late in the game. He will be voted “Most likely to never return for reunions” in his yearbook and will have to move on with his life without the memories I’m sure his parents hoped he would have. Getting into college may be a challenge — just don’t give up. As long as there is breath left in you, keep putting one foot down in front of the other — just keep going for the goal.

Advice to wise: Get a really, really good lawyer. If ANYONE ASSOCIATED with the case calls it “silly,” BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID. If it’s the defense lawyer you’ve hired, GET A DIFFERENT ATTORNEY.

Have they banned Red Dawn? That movie started with a shooting at a school.

Article doesn’t say how the school officials became aware of the modified computer game. That strikes me as a very relevant detail. And so is his past disciplinary and psych history, which we’re not allowed to know about.

Appreciate your reply, but your daughter wants, with your permission, to design games ... I'm supposing no one knew what this kid was doing.

Has anyone read the article? ..

My dial up is too slow for a gamers page.

Yes. That was an absurd movie. Here were terrorists willing to kill the kids, but they decided the children really needed to be able to sleep in their own rooms and play outside during the day.

And the kid can sneak out, but the combined military force can’t figure out how to sneak in.

And, keeping with the theme for the day, it had the kid that played “Wesley” from Star Trek, the Next Generation (Will Wheaton). He’s the son of the mob guy, and he gets himself shot up making the mob guy really mad which gets the prisoners all on the government’s side just to get back at the terrorists.

Proving that if you really want to stop the terrorist threat, you should make the mob mad at them.

In my kid's school here in New Jersey, forming a "gun" with the thumb and forefinger on the playground is banned.
