Today’s attack took place in the village of Ein Alaq, just south of the town of Bikfaya, some 30 miles northeast of the Lebanese capital.
In the hospital, friends and relatives said they took the attack as an act of intimidation, aimed at making people afraid to attend the memorial for Mr. Hariri on Wednesday. In Lebanon, public memorials are never just about grieving; they are also about political statements, so the anniversary was to be a chance for the pro-government forces — locked in a political battle with the Iran-Syria backed opposition, led by Hezbollah — to rally their own forces.
