Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code is one of the most popular best sellers in recent history and the Sony motion picture to be released this Friday (May 19) is expected to be the first major blockbuster of the summer (given how relatively poorly MI3 performed). All this despite -- or, perhaps, because of -- being pervasively condemned by Christian leaders.

I think the movie is going to bomb - not only is it being panned by critics as nonsensical - it is absolutely boring...

I've always wanted to leave a theater from a suspense thriller and yell to the waiting patrons "The Mother (or whoever) did it!"........

I can't wait for the end of this DaVinci/Templar/Grail/etc. crap. I'm so SO damn tired of hearing about it.

$200 Million in three weekends will outpace Titanic. If that happens, that will be amazing.

$200 Million in three weekends will outpace Titanic. If that happens, that will be amazing. Not really. Titanic had a titanic total gross because it defied the normal box office pattern and kept generating high ticket sales week after week after week. Other blockbusters follow the normal pattern of a huge opening followed by a predictable tailing off.
For example, Lord of the Rings - Return of the King, Spider-Man, and Star Wars - The Phantom Menace all racked up over $100 million on their first weekends and over $200 million by the Monday after their second weekends. It would not be at all surprising for The Da Vinci Code to pull in similar grosses.
