This is the day of redemption when, in the name of 'Absolute Science! Amen!" the evil bourgeoisie (Conservatives, Christians, white males, all heterosexuals, George Bush, Rumsfeld, etc) will be damned. Likewise, all evil social institutions such as private property, traditional family, absolute moral laws, the Boy Scouts, Christianity, the concept of sin, and man's created condition as either male or female will be demolished, thus allowing equality of condition to prevail.

You know, there are effective medications for this sort of thing.

Most Evolutionists still keep trying to say that it has nothing to do with 'religion'. Those who know are liars, Those who don't are just naive fools that know little about the 'dogma' they so ardently preach.

Linda,

What a socialist criminologist says about the theory of evolution is of no importance. When he gets a degree in biology, he can discuss the theory of evolution.

Until then, he's just another layman.

Are you Linda Kimball? If so, why is this in News/activism and not in Vanity?

BTW, Darwin had nothing to do with socialism, and evolution has nothing to do with anything other than biology.

Scientific materialism..... polysyllabic ending in ism.

Is it sort of like the now obsolete secular humanism?

Enrico Ferri (1856-1926), a prominent socialist of his day, was an Italian criminologist who for many years was the editor of Avanti, a socialist daily.

*yawn* already the author loses my attention by rabbiting on about utter trivialities, in a bid I suspect, to impress me. The fact is that the author could have shortened all of the above paragraph into 3 words: "Some socialist guy". That is all I need to know. Do I care that this guy was Italian, or a criminologist, or an editor of a magazine I have never heard of? (No I don't care). I don't wish to read articles like this - extremely low information per page.

The fundamental flaw of this article seems to be that the author is confusing Social Darwinism with the single term Darwinism used as slang to refer to the Theory of Evoluton. Both very different ideas in both type and content.

Noone is going to deny Social Darwinism has connections to Socialism, but the scientific theory of evolution as well as what the author deems "Scientific materialism" has absolutely nothing to do with socialism at all. I don't need a degree in "wordnomics" to know that and no amount of quoting of "famous" socialists is going to change that.

Utter hogwash. Darwin was revulsed by the attempts by socialists in Germany and elsewhere to somehow try to justify their ideologies with his theories.

These threads have become an amusing sideshow on FR, but I have to wonder who dreams up the hysterical topics:
"Darwinism and the Religion of Scientific Materialism"
"Darwinism and Plot to Ban all Religions"
"Darwinism and the Destruction Of all that is Good"
"Darwinists: Do they really want to Kill the Defenseless Kittens?"

Then you have to create a rambling screed blaming poor Charles for everything from Pol Pot and Stalin to AIDS and Teen Pregnancy. (Boy, that Darwin fella must have been one evil dude!) Be sure to use lots of meaningless but emotionally weighted phrases like "theology of scientific materialism", "Darwinian socialism" "Darwinian Genocidalism"; these make it look like some sort of analytical thought went into the screed.
And did I mention the 'L' word? Make sure to blame The Liberals for all the world's ills. Remember, Darwin is beloved by Liberals, and no True Conservative believes in his evil, soul-destroying heresies.

Who would have believed that one dude catching a ride on a boat to the Galapagos could have brought ruin on the world?

David Horowitz had this to say about scientific materialism's theology and creation account: "The victorious radicals had proclaimed a theology of Reason in which equality of condition was the natural and true order of creation. In their Genesis, the loss of equality was the ultimate source of mankind's' suffering and evil…The ownership of private property became a secular version of original sin. Redemption…was possible only through the Revolution that would abolish property and open the gates to the Socialist Eden---to paradise regained." ("The Politics of Bad Faith" www.discoverthenetwork.com)

When I first read this, I was disappointed because I usually agree with most of what David Horowitz has to say. Then I realized he's just equating left wing secular fanatics with right wing religious fanatics. He's spot on.

"So now its America's turn to be sacrificed upon the altar of Promethean narcissism, for having learned nothing from his corpse-littered past, bloody-handed Prometheus continues to doggedly pursue his fantasy of a terrestrial paradise—in the name of 'Absolute Science! Amen!"

Hmmmm. I LIKE it!! BUMP!
