This the same company that just said screw you to the US government when it came to getting data for a child porn case? Then they turn around and kiss the PRC's despotic behind?

So much for the wish that freedom brought by the internet, will change the Chinese leadership styles.

Q. How can you tell when a Google press spokesperson is lying when explaining their cooperation with Chinese censorship?
A. Their lips are moving.
I'm going to check out MSN Search. Google is now on a list that includes Progressive Insurance (i.e., not worth my dollar or my time.)

I have stopped using Google entirely for this and other reasons. I use A9.com and thereby get a discount on my Amazon purchases. I see no real diference in the quality and breadth of my search results.
Another gripe against Google.
It is curious -- perhaps not really -- that on Google Earth's map of the Middle East, every nation is listed except for one. Can you guess which one it is? google earth Middle east
They have become a powerful, arrogant, leftt-wing colossus. I will no longer patronize them.

Someone explain this to me:
1. Google resists turning informations over to the U.S. Gov't.
2. Google gives in to the Chinese gov't's demands.
Is it just me, or is there a problem here?

Yes and as more and more of those 1.3 billion wild and crazy Chinese google down and that rénmínbì starts rolling in by the billions and billions the Chi-coms will say,
"Excuse me google, but the freedom-loving democratic People's Republic of China finds your anti-socialist search results in the U.S. objectionable "
And once again from one of the company's executives' fleet of wide-body Boeing airliners will come this, "'We firmly believe, with our culture of innovation, Google can make meaningful and positive contributions to the already impressive pace of development in China,' said Andrew McLaughlin, Google's senior policy counsel. Therefore. . . . "

So, you post a link to a google map of Saudi Arabia and complain about the lack of detail for Israel? I've got my own problems with google but that ain't one of them. Google did in fact agree not to show a high level of detail of several sites in Israel that are militarily sensitive. If they were anti-Israel, would they have done so?

It was not a map of Saudi Arabia. It was a map of the "Middle East" with every country, small and large, explicitly listed except for Israel. The land is showing, but the name is ... forgotten.

Thanks for the A9.com tip...as soon as I read this I uninstalled my Google toolbar, will not use their search engine, and hope their stock value drops like a rock. This disgusting affront to freedom and democracy deserves the harshest response from citizens of the free world. It's very simple - use an alternate search engine, it won't kill you, at the worst maybe it'll add .00001 seconds to your search result time.

Google already censors info in this country if they don't like the content. I use Clusty. Seems to do the job just fine.

Google officials characterized the censorship concessions in China as an excruciating decision for a company that adopted "don't be evil" as a motto. But management believes it's a worthwhile sacrifice.Money talks. Everyone has their price and Google just found theirs. Sold what was left of their liberal soul. I can't imagine screwing over their users by not letting them find the truth. Whatever happened to integrity? What a bunch of phonies.

I seem to recall a remark about one of their big shots saying that he wants to make sure only "good" or "the right" information gets to Google users. That's quite all right, I'll just use Dogpile and Mapquest (instead of Google and maps.google.com) from now on...
