Welcome to the folding at home thread. The previous thread has gotten too large, so we move on to yet another.
While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's members, or it's founders, it is comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing, who have banded together, to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via Distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimers, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 777th place, having moved up from 1200th place, a week earlier, and is now in the top 100 teams, for daily contributions.
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, links are provided to the program, or it is easily googled by "folding@home".

You know, my automatic updater informed me this morning that it wanted to update. I knew it was the WMF update, and I decided to wait until I heard from others how the patch was working. Thanks for your post. I'll wait and update later.
Just fwiw Clara, I updated or allowed to update about 100pcs today without issue.
Your mileage may vary of course.
Thanks for your input. (Honestly, my computer never has a problem with MS updates. I'm just concerned that they hurried this WMF patch.)
RE; 20 Top producers...
I lost a 241 pointer last night/early AM. Don't know how or why. When I went to bed it was 12 hours from completion. When I got up 6 hours later, I had a new one that had just started. No point change, so I must've lost it.
Regina_Plumm lost a 206 pointer due to the MS update. Tonystransportation couldn't connect and lost a few, as well.
Patricia_Bell couldn't connect as well, but she has C.R.S., so we'll never know. LOL
:O)

Malsua: Do you have the patch as a standalone?

No, various stages of autoupdate, completely auto, wait to install and one that does nothing until you start it. Some(half a dozen machines I use personally) that used windows update. The vast bulk were completely automatic.
My power supply is fritzing!!
My machine is off. This is Marie Antoinette, posting on my husband's machine. I'm 97% sure it's the power supply. Unfortunately, I'm familiar with that burning electrical wire smell. :(
So I have my WU over half done but can't turn on my machine. And now I have to order a new PS.
sigh...
>>My power supply is fritzing!!<<
Ugh. I suggest getting an Antec. I've bought hundreds of cases/ps for 15 years or so, never had an Antec fail.

as an addendum, I've had plenty of offbrand powersupply fans fail.
"Marie Antoinette" + "Big Giant Head"? Seems incongruous somehow - was "Louis XVI" not available? Didn't Marie Antoinette lose her (big? giant?) head? ;)
Ok, I had finally gotten my first work unit downloaded, and it processed over the last couple of days. It finished, and saved the work, but I don't seem to be able to load the finished unit back to the server, and/or download the next core.
I did have a message when I got home from my virus software warning me that Folding@home was trying to access the internet, and I selected to Always Allow it, but that has not solved the problem. I've restarted several times, and even did a system restore to yesterday's checkpoint to see if it was the new windows update that screwed it up.
Here's some pertinent messages from the log:
[02:37:21] + Attempting to send results
[02:37:21] - Couldn't send HTTP request to server
[02:37:21] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)
[02:37:21] (171.65.103.100:8080)
[02:37:21] Could not transmit unit 01 to Collection server; keeping in queue.
[02:37:26] + Downloading new core: FahCore_79.exe
[02:37:26] - Error: HTTP GET returned error code 0
[02:37:26] + Error: Could not download core
[02:37:26] + Core download error (#3), waiting before retry...
Any ideas???
