Welcome to the folding at home thread. The previous thread has gotten too large, so we move on to yet another.
While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's members, or it's founders, it is comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing, who have banded together, to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via Distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimers, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 777th place, having moved up from 1200th place, a week earlier, and is now in the top 100 teams, for daily contributions.
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, links are provided to the program, or it is easily googled by "folding@home".
!! :)
Oh thanks. That makes me feel better. I was afraid we wouldn't get the unit.
It's already showed up on the Stanford site, has you credited for 6 completed workunits.
The over clocking site has you down as 5, but that's understandable. It only updates once every 3 hours, starting at 12am CST, and pulls data from an hour earlier.
ie, if standford updates at 10:20pm, that update is processed, verified, and then released to 3rd party sites like overclockers, around 11:20pm. Overclockers uses that, to post the 12am statistics. The next Stanford public update is around 2:30am, which is used for the 3am overclocker's update.
Sometimes, there's very little slippage, and sometimes, Stanford gets busy, and overclockers doesn't have all the data to post. That's why there's about 1 to 1 1/2hr differnce between the two sites.
Thank you Klutz. :-)

I know that story - seems I'm always stepping in it, LOL.
"It was totally a shock to everyone."
You got that right. I was kinda nervous waiting for the other shoe to drop. I felt sorta like a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs, heheh.
With all the hackers and viruses out there, I can understand Jim's reluctance to endorse the project. (There's a really bad flaw in Windows Media Player that's now being exploited.) With his servers, and having limited funds, and the huge number of members, I might have taken the same position just out of a sense responsibility.
Anyway, all's well that ends well - meaning we get to kick DU butt while helping find cures for diseases - doesn't get any better than that.

I never seem to get above 50% CPU for the fahCore_65.exe process. System Idle process hovers around 50. I have the CPU Usage slider in configuration all the way to the right. Is it XP-Home that keeps the process from using more cycles? I have a P4 3Ghz and 1G mem, and a nVidia 6600Gt graphics card. I dont mind FAH using all the CPUs it can grab while I am not using this box.
Please add me to the ping list. Thanks.
I think you have HT (Hyper Threading) enabled and you are using the maximum available, but the task manager reports the usage incorrectly. In otherwords no need to do anything different.
Laundry bump!

You have either a dual core, or Hyperthreading cpu.
You could uninstall the gui client, and install two instances of the console version. Each would take up
a different side, and you would reach 100% utilization.
Yes, the reason is Hyperthreading turned on and task manager is not displaying it correctly. Thanks!

Good! (not that you step in it - but that you know it), because I forgot the punch line and was hoping someone here would remember.
we're at #716 with 346 CPUs
Hopefully, Klutz's additional CPUs may push us over 400 CPUs
Happy to be a part of this project - but sheesh! I am moving backwards every day in the rankings with my 1 measly pc. LOL. I dropped 10 places in one week!
Finished a frame <1>
Finished a frame <2>
and so on and so forth. What does that mean?
So, bottom line is that everything looks good! :)
Hey, I know how you feel. I was in the top 100 for about a day. Then I dropped like a stone for about 10 days, and today I finally finished a WU, so I moved up a little. Saturday I'm supposed to finish one I've had for 2 weeks. Those points will help! ~patience, patience~
