Some of us are looking for a specific ping list that discusses military history topics primarily. The focus of such a ping list would be on historical military commanders, wars, battles, strategies, tactics, and the like (as opposed to current military topics). At present, we have not been able to find such a list though there is quite a bit of intereest among FReepers.
If you would like to join the new "Military History" ping list, please reply to FReeper indcons.
Me too!
Done, Rebelbase...welcome to the MilHist ping list. Pings to follow in a few minutes.
Welcome to the new pingees in the MilHist list. In a few minutes, I'll ping y'all to the two threads that were posted today.
Have you read all of the Freeper Foxhole threads?
i'm in!!
The old Freeper Foxhole ping list would overlap with this one. Since it isn't very active right now, you might want to ask SamWolf or Snippy_about_it if they'd like to ping their people to one of your threads to see if they are interested in signing up for your ping list.
Yes, I went to the Foxhole before this ping list started. I have also sent a request to SamWolf or Snippy_about_it for more information. Thanks for the ideas.
Please add me!
6th and 5th GGrandfathers in the Revolutionary War. 2nd GGrandfather in the Civil War. Uncle in WWII. Uncle in Vietnam. And I've been in the service since 1980. Think my favorite time period is Civil War, followed by Rev War.
Look on the front page of FR for our stuff.
"Geez, were we forgotten so soon?"
Not really.....:) I sent y'all a couple of previous pings. In any case, if the Foxhole is still active and is open to covering global military history, we can have a combined list and I can give you the names of new pingees.
OTH, if you do not plan on covering topics like ALexander, Genghiz Khan, the Huns, and others, then we may continue using this list. I am open to ideas.
Done....welcome to the list, ODC-GIRL.
Done....welcome to the list, beebuster2000
btw: if we are doing military history just read a new book out "shattered sword" story of battle of midway, although mostly from japanese side. incredibly well written, and the sections about the actual devastation aboard akagi, soryu, hiryu and kaga are mindblowing. the strategy part is pretty good too.
specially when your ealize the risks nimitz and spruance took while greatly outnumbered . and how good their military intel was.
wonder if we still have the same capabilities these days.
Count me in, please.
Done......welcome to the MilHist list, shamusotoole
