I'm a computer processor chip test engineer for a major chip manufacturer. Being a nerd is no excuse to not be a handy-man as well. I've got my CCNA. MCP. A+/N+ certs. I'm currently working on LInux+ cert and a degree.
And I can change a tire in the rain at midnight without a flashlight or re-wire a ceiling fan.
Boy needs to read more Heinlein...

He can do the ceiling fan, and change a tire. For other things, he earns enough money that we can pay someone who's better qualified :-).
I plan to send our sons to Vo-tech (or whatever it's calling itself these days) to learn all the fix-it stuff, as soon as they're old enough.

"I can change a tire in the rain at midnight without a flashlight or re-wire a ceiling fan." Hint: Keep some extra disposable (big) trash can liners in the trunk of the car.
Hint No.2: The blue wire is for the light.
(I've read Heinlein. Could stand some re-reading though...)

Hummingbirds are neat.
There is a definite "pecking order" with the dominate male deciding who will be allowed to feed from the feeder.

Yes, they are neat. We have what looks like three breeding pairs plus this year's offspring hanging around. They'll all fly south around October.
It's really funny when there's a wasp on the feeder; all the birds will hang around and gripe, and the wasp will wave at them. Sort of like cats when a possum shows up at the food bowl!

And tough little scrappers.
I don't think I have ever been more bemused then I was when I saw my first hummingbird fight.
It just seemed so strange.

Wasps are a lot smarter than most of us think.
Considering their size, they do a darn good job of navigating, recognizing what is, and isn't a threat or a food source, and reacting to their needs with enviable speed.
I wouldn't advise playing with them, but I have heard tales of wasps giving a clear unspoken message to human interlopers that was the equivalent of, "Okay, I've sized you up, and I know what you are about, now leave me alone to tend to my affairs!"
Military "smart bomb" designers could only wish to have such hardware capabilities!

Hi everyone. Once again, Winston and I survived our trek across Illinois.
