How would Kerry know what to write on these note cards UNLESS he ALREADY HAD THE QUESTIONS!? This DEFINATELY needs to be SHOUTED FROM THE ROOFTOPS! We all know rules are ONLY for Republicans.

Exactly.
All items, including props, were to be placed on the podium before the candidate's entrance. If you wanted a sweat rag, a rabbits foot, paper, pen, whatever; it was not to be produced from your jacket pocket.

I find it concerning you are so caught up in performance that you are incapable of understanding the seriousness of what Kerry proposed and how that is the real story here.

Of course it was serious. And, it would have been received as more serious if Bush hadn't stumbled his way through the debate.

Look, Kerry's words are ultimately what will be remembered IF Bush does a better job on Friday.

Well, to spare us having the same argument next Sunday, I hope he has the performance of his life. LOL

Then you must like pain if you watched enough to give us a blow by blow description. You almost sound masochistic about this. Quit beating yourself up and ask yourself why you dwell on this negativity.

surely some 527 somewhere can play the audio from kerry calling the republicans "cheats" and "liars" while showing the debate video of kerry pulling something from his pocket...voice-over then, "Whose cheating now?"

It really looked like a pen to me -right after he pulled it out he pulled the top off the pen. But the video probably does reveal much more when slowed...

Direct your comment to the person I was quoting. I certainly did not say President Bush cannot think on his feet. I was disputing that assertion from another.

Further proof that James Baker is an incompetent boob. How that man has managed to make himself out to be the brains in any outfit is downright staggering. What has he EVER succeeded at doing to government besides making it bigger?

Lee Atwater, RIP.

While I understand your concern for the more weighty things involved in this campaign, I always wonder why it is that people think that we cannot "focus" on those things and persue something like this at the same time.

Further, exactly what would you suggest we can actually DO about these other issues except pray?

Oh my god, it is totally a piece of paper. What an a$$hole, who doesn't even hold sacred the importance of following debate guidelines.

My point was that...yeah Kerry is a cheat...but we knew that already. If he used notes will that change the election...probably not...If he was fed questions before hand..well then that is something worth looking into.

We need to get access to the high-def D5 or DigiBeta archive source that almost certainly exists for this event.

Exactly, Tortoise. An uncompressed QuickTime file off the original will be fine, but these things we're seeing here on the net are low-rez and compressed to the Nth. Even a super-clean recording off DirecTV will still be a recording of a highly compressed signal. As small as the object is within the frame, I need something as close to the source as possible in order to have the best shot at extracting meaningful detail. Video enhancement, unfortunately, as you no doubt already know, is not as portrayed on the movies and CSI.

I used to respect your opinions as well thought out and pragmatic and never nutty or mean, just curmudgeonly. That is past tense, you sound viscerally angry, aloof, and hard hearted. President Bush came to Florida because people are hurting especially in Central Florida hit three times by dangerous hurricanes. He did what he does best and met with an elderly man that he helped get military disability after trying for 58 years and getting screwed over by everyone. The man is deaf and in his 80's,and had no power in his home but was so thrilled that he met the president he could not sleep and is still exhilarated. The day of the debate he also was faced with the headlines of the murder of 35 Iraqi children. He was out in this terrible heat and carnage in Florida, and in hindsight he probably should have postponed his sympathy trips because he seemed like he was very dehydrated and very tired. Good reason to beat him up on all the threads because he thought he could do it all and did not accomplish this. He is not a robot,he is human.

The fuss about the lights makes the cheating plausible.

Kerry sometimes gets flustered when being interviewed by reporters; his temper even shows. His camp was angry about the lights on the podium and thought they would be a distraction. They threatened to take them down.

They didn't do that, but they covered Kerry's a-- by making sure he had notes to cover his main talking points or key statements (lies) that he wanted to get across. They weren't going to leave it to chance that he would get flustered by the President, the questions, or the lights.

I saw him reach into his pocket when the debate first started and simply assumed he was getting out note cards. I didn't know then that they were not allowed to bring anything to the podium. The cards (or paper) were pulled out when his back was mostly to the audience. Where was Lehrer looking when this happened?

He forced himself to bumble and stumble and look unprepared?

He's not like Kerry, Gore or Clinton; someone born and bred to become President. He's a real person.

He may win another four years, and I hope he does, but allowing your opponent back in a race that you were on your way to winning is not a good strategy.

Actually (Now, I'm just speaking for myself here) it's the ONLY strategy. Kerry's people are doing everything legal and illegal to get him elected. President Bush can't just squeak by. He has to slaughter Kerry to the point that it takes a majority of democrat operatives with him. Rush said long ago that Bush seems not satisfied just to win, but to destroy the democrat party.
So, strategically, Bush had to bite his lip and give the air of underachiever to place the opponents in a state of overconfidence, and they're doing just that.
What I forsee is Bush's next debate becoming one of picking apart Kerry's words and revealing the outcome of Kerry's plans for America. When Bush is done, the taste left in viewers' mouths will be so bad that they'll not even want to speak the name, "Kerry."
HOW Bush does this, I have a few ideas. But it'll be much better to be suprised.

You might be asking yourself why I place so much faith in him. One major thing is the fact that almost every FReeper was able to counter Kerry, while Bush stayed silent. I watched this and said to myself, "That man's got a plan. He's coming off dim to everyone, but there's a plan in the works."
Watch the tape again. Bush is biting his lip; almost as if he could hear tens of thousands of FReepers screaming at their televisions.
