John Kerry Lost the election tonight
10-01-04 | John Knight

Posted on 09/30/2004 7:59:58 PM PDT by MNJohnnie

It is unfortunate when people confuse relentlessly negative critical comments as intellectual sophistication. There is this strange fascination with a certain segment of Freepers. They seem to think if they are playing devils advocate ALL the time and making constantly critical comments about their own side, it makes them seem thoughtful and intelligent. Maybe we should have a term for this? Call it "McCainism" A metal defect that requires the victim to constantly critize their own side while NEVER pointing out where the other side blew it. Mccainism does not make you look smart. See REAL intelligence would be to provide some serious BALANCED review not this hysterical "OH WE LOST! IT IS ALL OVER" chicken little screech time after time, post after post.

Mark my words Boy's and Girls, John Kerry just lost the election tonight. Since most who suffer from McCainism seem to be lawyers, I will put it to you in terms you might understand. John Kerry may, or may not, have won the formal debate but he didn't win the Jury. And you people always forget this one fact. The JURY (i.e. The American people), not the Debate coaches decides the election.

John Kerry lost the election tonight people. You heard it here first.

Two words: GLOBAL TEST

I think Kerry may eat them.

What a disgrace. The topic of conversation should immediately go to Lehrer's partisan questioning.

I'm wondering how Kerry seemed so prepared for every single question. Compare the way he answered Diane Sawyer yesterday morning to tonight's performance. I'm wondering if he might have gotten the questions ahead of time.

This debate, best case scenario, was a draw. In effect, a net loss for President Bush. Look, his camp fought for the most watched first debate to be on national security. This one SHOULD have gone solid in the WIN column.

This election is too important. These guys need to get their heads together and figure out how to blow the Flipper out of the water.

I was going to say that this post belonged on the "Live Debate" thread, then I realized you already posted it there.

I have no idea what made you think that you're totally bland thougts merited its own thread.

Kerry lectured. Bush talked. Algore lectured. Bush talked. Same old thing four years later. The Democrats haven't learned anything.

I agree with both of you. I did not watch the debate, but watching the commentators and reading the debate threads here, it appears as though many think Kerry came off as more articulate. So what? What a man says and what a man does are two vastly different things, especially with Kerry.

As I stated, I didn't listen to the debates, but I'll just betcha W's position never changed.

The bottom line on tonights debate. Bush was acceptible, though he was not at his best. But he didn't need to be at his best to have a clear and coherent message and he had one.

Kerry was not superb nor was he terrible, but he literally looked like he was twisting around in circles on the stage there. His message changed from response to response and sometimes even in mid-response. In short he came across as convoluted, and that is why I have to give the debate to Bush.

Yeah, I noticed that too.

At one point, I turned to my wife and said "have you noticed all the questions are 'Sen. Kerry, please tell us how Bush is a screw up,' or 'Mr. President, do you regret you screwed up on [fill in]'?"

I think Bush kicked his ass til both shoes were shitty.

Course I am biased. But my wife, who is not really very political, thougt Kerry was a robotic, big money, sham, a lying, nit picking, bumptious pismire, and that Bush was real, speaking from the heart.

Nobody changed the minds that were already made up, but no matter how this gets spun Bush won some swing votes tonight.

Lehrer didn't ask a SINGLE QUESTION about Kerry's Senate record.

Hopefully that pertinent issue will be picked up by a moderator in the next debate(s) whose salary is not government funded.

Yes, the President came off as direct, fair, clear. I am sure this will give Mr. Bush a bump of about five points in the polls.

I think the final polls on November 2nd will have the President winning 57%, kerry 42%, with 1% for Nader.

Now that you mention it, Kerry wasn't asked once about his career record.

Kerry whined and complained more about Bush's record.

Thanks for perspective.

Two things that Kerry must be pounded on starting as soon as possible. Number one, he said he would immediately open bilateral talks with the North Koreans. Clinton made this mistake and we've been paying for it ever since. No credible foreign policy wonk will support it. That is a boneheaded, stupid position and if he is attacked on it he will be forced to reverse himself.

Number two, he said he would immediately end our program to developed a tactical nuclear bunker buster. That is the old failed ideal of unilateral disarmament and can be easily discredited. Kerry has been against every major weapons program for the last 20 years and he still is!

He should be pounded on these two points as soon as possible.

This debate was won by Kerry if on nothing more than technique. Problem is he lied a few times and did not have the facts on his side for those of us who follow all this s**t. It was imperative for Kerry to gain ground tonight. He may have gained a little, but it shouldn't be enough. There are still many days and two more debates to come. No harm done. (But Kerry is the better debater. Don't look for him to be better the second time, in other words, don't misunderestimate Pres. Bush.)

I listened to the whole debate and I kept hearing Kerry say that he has a plan...but I must have missed something because I still haven't got a clue as to what "THE PLAN" is..did anyone catch it and could you clue me in on it?
