Scientists vie to break junk DNA's secret code

By Roger Highfield, Science Editor
(Filed: 06/10/2003)

Huge tracts of human DNA, previously written off as meaningless junk, have been found to contain a hitherto unrecognised "genetic grammar", making the language of our genes much more complex than previously thought.

The discovery is of potentially huge significance, since it could lead to an entirely new explanation for certain diseases and symptoms. A race is now on among teams of scientists worldwide to investigate this cryptic code.

While the genetic recipe of a human being is spelt out with three billion letters of DNA code, only about two per cent of these correspond to the genes - the DNA that describes the proteins that build and operate bodies.

In the latest issue of the journal Science, Prof Stylianos Antonarakis of the University of Geneva Medical School, Dr Ewen Kirkness of the Institute of Genomic Research, Maryland, and colleagues have reported compelling evidence that up to three per cent of our genetic material has a crucial role that is not understood.

They made the unexpected discovery that some DNA regions of humans, dogs and species as distant as elephant and wallaby are nearly identical. These regions of what were once called junk have been dubbed "conserved non-genic sequences", or CNGs, a reference to how they are not conventional genes.

Prof Antonarakis said: "I suspect that mutations in CNGs may contribute to numerous genetic disorders." Defects in CNGs could result in illness while the symptoms of Down's syndrome, caused by an extra copy of a chromosome, might be linked to the presence of additional CNGs.

"Many laboratories are now working on identifying pathogenic mutations," he said.

Well, I found the question. It was in a thread put into the backroom. However, it was you that broached the subject. in Post 261

I find it more disturbing when someone claims to be part of a religion, yet does not know anything about the religion that they are claiming to be a part of.

So I do not find it hard to understand that this answer drew some further questions. I am an agnostic Christian, if that makes any sense to you.

Ever notice how much the dust of the ground figures into the creation story?

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

You aren't discussing science because you refuse to answer the most basic questions therefore anything you say is suspect. I have shown that you have engaged in lies in the past and so have others therefore anything you post is suspect. No one wants to discuss anything with a person known to falsify facts. How can you have any discussion with a person like that. You can start over simply by answering the questions, and you know they are... How old is the earth/Universe?

And In The Latter Days

Men Shall Be Lovers of Their Own Selves

Without Natural Affection

Being Past Feeling

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language:
"narcissism ... excessive love or admiration of oneself ... characterized by self-preoccupation, lack of empathy."
"empathy ... identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives."

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things
which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit,
malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure
in them that do them.

Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their
mind,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the
blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits,
and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which
believe and know the truth.

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

That's why the liberal minions want the Bible outlawed.
They want to play Hitler and burn them all.
Their propaganda calls it "Hate speech", because it exposes them for what they are.
Demons don't like exposure. They risk being cast out.

As you said, it is very specific to each gene...-me-

No, restriction enzymes are specific, but not gene specific - only code specific

Yes, but you need to use the specific sequence for each gene you need to put together. It is a complex system which needs to have arise at the same time as introns. That is why it makes evolution impossible, there could have been no gradualness about it.

I have a few problems with what evolutionists say about mitochondria. First of all it has a different DNA code from the rest of living things-me-

Every organism's DNA is unique, not just mitochondrial DNA.

Yes, the sequences are unique, but with mitochondria, the DNA code, how the DNA gets translated to amino acids is different.

I never said it was most ancient, though. Just that it bears striking resemblance to bacteria. Could it not, over time, have evolved to it's very specific purpose of providing the life energy of ATP?

You did not say it was most ancient, but evolutionists do all the time as an excuse for the different genetic code they have. The problem of changing a genetic code is very large because you need to change both the way you read it and the way you write it at the same time otherwise you end up with useless proteins. The evolution of the system of translating food into energy is itself a great problem for evolutionists. It is a very complex system with numerous steps all of which have to be successful or the system fails. Since energy is essential to life the system had to have been in place from the beginning of life.

You aren't discussing science

The dishonesty of the evolutionists is totally unbelievable. When presented with scientific proof against their atheist/materialist religion all they can do is lie, insult and slime. As I have been showing in my posts the age of the earth is irrelevant to whether evolution is true or not. The fact that numerous systems, and organs in every organism had to have arisen at once or the organisms would have been unable to function shows the impossibility of evolution. There are numerous examples of this in my article Nobel Prize Design in DNA none of which can be scientifically disputed. That is why for some 500 posts the evos have been spamming, sliming, lying, character assassinating and threatening on this thread. The evo emperor has no clothes and they cannot allow anyone to say so.

No one wants to discuss anything with a person known to falsify facts.

If that was the case, two-thirds of the evos that post on these forums would never get a response. Evos and their heroes have been falsifying facts and data for over a hundred years now! By the way, why don't you get out of attack mode and post something constructive? Your last 25 posts spanning over a week have been nothing but spam.

An important figure of Maryland history, Charles Carroll of Carrollton not only outlived all other signers of the Declaration of Independence, but he somewhat incongruously lived to participate in the dawn of a new era of transportation.

His last public act was the laying of the corner-stone of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad on the 4th of July, 1828.
His enthusiasm for and involvement with the fledgeling Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in the monumental task of linking the Atlantic drainage and the Ohio/Mississippi basin was important to that fledgeling enterprise. For more on the B&O, see The Great Road by James Dilts.

To the more general point of your post that Catholics were a minority among founding fathers, that simply reflects the demographics of the 18th century colonial era. Immigration to the country they founded would rapidly change that.

That's right - Baltimore was the catholic enclave. Of the remaining 250 founding fathers, all but about 12 were bible-believing Christians. Charles Thompson - translated first American bible (Thompson bible); John Witherspoon - 2 translations of bible; C.C.Pinckney and J.Langdon - founded American bible society; Benj. Rush - manager of Amer. Bible Society; 27 of 56 signers of D of I had seminary degrees; The founders also started the American Tract Society (so much for keeping their faith private!) in 1892, in Church of Holy Trinity vs. USA, the SCOTUS declared "This is a Christian nation".

There are many more facts that I could list regarding our Christian Heritage - which has been systematically destroyed by secular humanists. Our founders said over and over and over (need quotes?) that morality and virtue comes from religion and ONLY from religion, and that our Constitution was written for a moral and religious people and is worthless in the hands of bad leaders - which was very prescient considering it is being destroyed by secular humanists who are not moral or religious.

I was unaware that Catholics had another Bible. Being rather irreligious I'm not an expert on the subject. Nevertheless, you have your head up your butt most of the time on most topics so I suspect your analysis to be faulty.

I list facts - you insult. Who has their head up their butt? I wish you would try to deny anything I just said so I could BURY you in a blizzard of quotes and facts from our founding era. Let me just list some facts about how you secular humanists have destroyed our Christian heritage:

1947 - Everson vs. Bd. of Ed. - phony doctrine of sep. of church and state rears its ugly lying head.

1962 - Engle vs. Vitale - prayer banned from public school 1980 - Stone vs. Graham - 10 commandments removed from school walls (funny - in 1782, Congress published the first bible in America and inside that bible it said "For use of Schools")

1987 - Here's your favorite: Edwards vs. Aguillard - creationism banned in favor of evolution.

1992 - Invocations banned from graduations. In his concurring opiniion, humanist/idiot David Souter admitted that the founding fathers not only prayed at graduations, but they gave sermons. He concluded that the founders "turned their backs" on the Constitution! bwahahaha.

Care to debate the issue Mr. Seculuar-humanist?
