Yeah. OK. But what about the nervous nellies who fret about family and gay issues etc.? What will Delay do for them?

President Bush knew this but it was a good sound bite for the 'take the guns away' bunch.

They have to kill it because they know otherwise Bush would sign it.

We'll see how resilient Tom Delay and the GOP is after a few more remotely-controlled psychos shoot up universities and playgrounds at the most convenient moments during anti-firearms legislation in Washington.

Under normal circumstances, I support the positions the NRA takes and don't care for restrictions politicians try to place on the 2nd amendment.

That having been said, I wonder if letting the assault weapons ban die is such a good idea. The difference between then and now is 9-11. If we have this type of weapon readily available for sale within the United States, it seems to me that it would make it that much easier for a terrorist group to infiltrate the country unarmed, and then acquire the necessary tools to carry out an attack.

Think of the attack at El Al counter in LA...now have a dozen guys there instead of one...and arm them with machine guns.

Preserving the assault weapons ban makes it just that much harder for terrorists to obtain tools of the trade.

How does that mitigate his promise to betray us? Say your spouse tells you they are going out to have sex with someone they'll pick up at a bar, then comes home and tells you that there wasn't anyone at the bar, it's closed on Sundays. Does that make you feel better?

I'll keep my fingers crossed, and believe it when I see it.

Understand, however, that a bad mass shooting, REGARDLESS OF WEAPON INVOLVED, would all but guarantee the passage of an extension.

I will be thrilled if this turns out to be the case.

HOWEVER, while I won't hold it against Bush at the polls, I do hold it against him personally for takeing that stand, even if he was just "playing politics".

You're looking one right in the eye and I'm sick and tired of our compassionate conservative friend hiding behind someone else's skirt to politically pander.

This crap about rope-a-dope et is a poor excuse/spin of a political character.

Don't know what this fellow is but he comes a lot closer to my definition of a slick politician than a principaled conservative. Don't remember Regan hiding behind the skirt of the house whip.

Delay will do his job.

To bad Bush didn't do his and say he "wouldn't" sign any unconstitutional laws and would have those already on the books thrown out.

He's the one that took the oath of office of President, not Delay.
