Professor Dumped Over Evolution Beliefs

A university professor said she was asked to resign for introducing elite students to flaws in Darwinian thought, and she now says academic freedom at her school is just a charade.

During a recent honors forum at Mississippi University for Women (MUW), Dr. Nancy Bryson gave a presentation titled "Critical Thinking on Evolution" -- which covered alternate views to evolution such as intelligent design. Bryson said that following the presentation, a senior professor of biology told her she was unqualified and not a professional biologist, and said her presentation was "religion masquerading as science."

The next day, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Vagn Hansen asked Bryson to resign from her position as head of the school's Division of Science and Mathematics.

"The academy is all about free thought and academic freedom. He hadn't even heard my talk," Bryson told American Family Radio News. "[W]ithout knowing anything about my talk, he makes that decision. I think it's just really an outrage."

Bryson believes she was punished for challenging evolutionary thought and said she hopes her dismissal will smooth the way for more campus debate on the theory of evolution. University counsel Perry Sansing said MUW will not comment on why Bryson was asked to resign because it is a personnel matter.

"The best reaction," Bryson says, "and the most encouraging reaction I have received has been from the students." She added that the students who have heard the talk, "They have been so enthusiastically supportive of me."

Bryson has contacted the American Family Association Center for Law and Policy and is considering taking legal action against the school.

"There are no good scientific reasons to challange evolution."

I notice you wrote a couple hundred words without addressing the content of this statement.

That is a twisting of the facts. Those who dare teach anything contrary to Darwinism are forced out. That is what this thread is about.

What you write is also a twisting of the facts. They can teach Creationism anywhere else, as long as it's not in a science course, and they don't call it science. It's not. Social Studies, under the study of Origin Theories of different religions perhaps?

Everyone here is making a knee jerk reaction about this, but the plain truth is that we don't know what she said, until then, I don't presume to judge the school or this professor.

You're kidding right?

Being a bit facetious, perhaps.

I am amused that multiculturalist icons seem to have such an influence on our creationist posters.

Yeah, right. You continue to twist, I said contrary to Darwinism, not Creationism.

No, I gather they assume the time divergence from the fossil evidence. The original post contended there was a lack of evidence linking vertebrate and invertebrate evolutions. The paper I cited I highly recommend; many public libraries carry Science. They do a very systematic job of identifying genes in Ciona which are present (often in many diverged copies) in vertebrates; genes that are present in protostome invertebrates (mollusks, arthropods, etc) and in Ciona, but not in vertebrates; and genes that seem to be missing entirely in Ciona. Obviously, if you don't believe in evolution, you're going to be trying to explain away all of these homologies; but reading this paper will at least convince you of the sheer volume of evidence that has to be explained away, and the nonsense of saying that there's no evidence of links between invertebrates and vertebrates.

Seemed to me that RWP felt that since the name was related to black history month, that this person of incredible scientific knowlegde should not be recognized. I am not black, but GWC did incredible things to advance our knowledge of agriculture and crop cultivation, to name but a few. Regardless of color, this man was a true scientist, and incredibly, a CHRISTIAN.

Please Think,

What kind of proof do I want? You are the one saying that evolution is a fact and in science you know that the burden of proof is on you. I asked you to provide evidence to demonstrate how invertebrates became vertebrates. Where and when did this happen in the fossil record? What examples of transitional species exist today? What were the motivating forces for the transition. What invertebrates existing today could we expect to transition to vertebrates?

I am completely open to any evidence you would like to share.

Open minded regards,
Boiler Plate

After all, you do realize, you are not getting proof in science.

Nice admission. Hey Retro and PH! You might want to frame this one.

Those who dare teach anything contrary to Darwinism are forced out. That is what this thread is about.

One does not have to do anything as serious as that. All you have to do is point out just one of the flaws of evo and you're in big trouble. Thou shalt not point out the impossibilites in darwinism.

Well, by now you've seen what the "chemistry professor" thinks of George Washington Carver, the Chemists' Chemist:

"I don't have one; sorry. I've seen the name mentioned in connection with Black History month; I'd therefore guess (perhaps unfairly) that he's some mediocrity raised to a near-Einsteinian status on account of racial tokenism."

I think that says it all. His ignorance knows no bounds.

That you would even say such a silly thing, shows what this discussion is really about, philosophy, and theology, not science

Notice that RWProf plays around on these threads on work time. He's an employee of a state college so he is using tax dollars to promote his religion. (Just what would evolution become if all the tax dollar support were eliminated?)

Proof once again that the Darwinists are incapable of any form of critical thinking. Darwinism is their religion, and to question it is blasphemy.

Poor, silly Darwinists.
