The Design Inference Game
03/03/03 | Moi

Posted on 03/03/2003 8:27:25 AM PST by general_re

I thought a new thread was a good idea, and here seems to be a good place to put it, so as not to clutter up "News". The only topic available was "heated discussion", though. ;)

If any clarification about the pictures is needed, just say so, and I will try to at least highlight the part that I am interested in for you. Remember that I'm interested in the objects or structures or artifacts being represented, so don't be thrown off if the illustrations seem abstract.

(sigh) standpoing=standpoint.

Popcorn does sound good. Between that and the smooching going on in the back row, it's like a Saturday afternoon matinee.

Well, all I gotta say is that I better not catch PH making a play for my 'sister' AG.

As for popcorn, it's after dinner now and I think this thread might be suitable for snifters and cigars (or pipes). None of those "controlled substances," though -- that's for those other threads. ;-`

Everyone's so dang impatient ;)

I am sorry to hear about your loss - I'm sure I speak for everyone when I ask you to please pass along condolences to the family and friends of your pastor, and please accept them as well.

Back on point - sorry about the delay. I was unavoidably detained over the last day or two, although for much less unpleasant reasons than yours. If you'd like, please post your reasoning for the last image, and then contemplate the next at your leisure....

Great post. I now withdraw from the catalogue task and leave the remaining objects to you. I'm truly grateful.

Thanks, Condorman. I've got a second here before being inundated with work items, but let me just say this:

I think the structure was built by ants. I decided that it didn't matter if the guy next to the structure poked a stick in the anthill or not to see if ants came out to attack. The building, regardless of whether it is currently occupied or not, is an artifact of ants, having been built by them. That fact removes the structure from the realm of random chance, and also reveals its contingency. Bits of earth held together by an adhesive to form a dwelling are irreducible to the physical motion and chemistry of bits of earth and adhesive. The indepently given pattern match is that the structure is a dwelling.

Cordially,

Wow. What a pic. Oh you devious man!;^)

Allow me to contemplate for a while while I smile.

Please allow me to also say that you and my other FRiends here are among the very few people who could make me smile at at a time like this.

(That pic is really fiendish:^)

Don't encourage me. I think this has some corrections, hopefully correct. Everyone should have the images cached by now, so this shouldn't affect page loading time.

Well, no, but you deserved it, I'm sure. ;-` Besides, I wouldn't want to appeal to a prurient interest if I actually posting a Betty Boop gif. 8-u Especially with all this affection going on.

Thank you. MS Office XP has a really professional HTML editor built in. It comes up when you try to edit an HTML document in Word. I found the stand-alone executable so I don't have to start Word. It's called mse7.exe.

One of the really cool things is you can highlight and copy a section of any web page, paste it into mse7, and you have the source code for just the section you want. It could pass for intelligent design.
