Well, we too are insisting that YOU go elsewhere

The trouble with you smoking nazis is that when we do go elsewhere, you show up! There are now jobs that won't hire smokers...why? They're trying to ban smoking OUTSIDE...why? They're trying to ban you from smoking in your own home...why? It isn't about smoking obviously. It's about fascism. You people never quit. You won't be happy until you've made us all stop...then what will you do? Who will you abuse next? You call yourself a Conservative but you obviously aren't. You only believe in freedom if everyone is exactly like you. That is the problem. And that is what is destroying this country.

And the street next to LDS temple square. No tank tops, smokes, music, preaching (unless the Mormons are doing the preaching).

So their local government is regulating religion huh? Sounds like something they would do.

I avoid Utah if it is possible. The shortest and fastest route from here to the mid west is on I-84 to I-80 in Utah. I drive US-30 through Idaho and Wyoming to stay away from them.

Mormons are told what to drink, what underwear to wear and many other decisions adults can make all by themselves.

Defense Rests :)

I have to hide in the office with the checkbook :)

I live in the LA/Orange County border and it has not been an issue. Restraunts are doing well under the circumstances and smoking in general is in decline.

In my opinion, it hasn't declined, they are just hiding it more. Because of the Gestapo Police.

A couple years ago a guy I know (another truck driver) got a ticket at a truck stop in Fontana, California for smoking in his truck. The cops said that the truck was a place of business and therefore he was not allowed to smoke in it.

My truck may be my office, but it is also my home away from home and not open to the public.

Smoking is a legal activity for adults.

Smoking is an illegal activity for adults (where it is banned).

Is this a true story?

I'm with you and mad about someone getting fined for smoking in their own truck by themselves.
Granted, that is a business legally, but with no other passangers in the car, they have no business giving fines for that. I think here in CA that is mostly Davis trying to generate revenue.

I eat out all the time, no smokers. Only smatterings in outdoor places.
Maybe in some tiney towns there might be places where it never changed, but where it is very populated, there has been a change in habits.
Only due to the high density of people do I feel it has been good.
In much less populated places it might not be an issue.

Articles here in CA say mostly strip clubs have been hurt by all this. (Just reitierating what I read, don't know that for a fact though...by way of OC Register and the Times.)

Yes it is a true story. Happened at the Cherry Street Truck Stop in Fontana, Ca. 2 summers ago.

Good grief.

Isn't that silly law limited to businesses over a certian size? And if it his own truck, it should be much lower than that.

Really it is NOT a business, it is a piece of equipment used to do a job, and a home. And it is not open to the public, even if it was, there would only be 2 people in there at a time.

My dad lives down there in Orange County and he said people can smoke at work if there is under a certain number of employees. Don't know what the number is though.

There is a locksmith close to his house that smokes in there all the time.

All it had to do with was raising money and nothing more.

I keep a sign in my truck that says "Non-Smokers Prohibited"
