Montgomery County police said yesterday that they will use tens of thousands of tips from the October sniper hunt to track down those who violate Maryland gun laws.

"Our goal is to reduce illegal firearm possessions and violent crimes," said Capt. Nancy Demme, spokeswoman for the Montgomery County Police Department. She also said the intensive crackdown would begin in the county in a few weeks.

Good points! I like the 1776 time line analogy.

Actually it isn't time to bring a case before the court. We have to wait until at least one lib on the court retires and Bush replaces them.

There is no guarantee that a conservative will replace the lib but at we get a better chance than now. I would still settle for a moderate that knows how to read a simple sentence.

That's a good point. I'm not sure how O'Connor would rule, and I'm not sure it's a good idea to find out.

Of course, the DC sniper investigators were unable to figure out how to run a simple SQL query to figure out that a certain Caprice had been entered several times in their database ... but they will use it after the fact to harass folks with NOTHING to do with the crime. This is a good preview of how TIA would be used if it were ever implemented - not as a means to anticipate and locate potential terrorists - because, after all, if federal investigators can't do simple queries properly, what makes them think they will be able to develop a hugely complex data model with petabytes of information? No, it will be used as a lookup database to investigate and persecute Americans.

The mission will be carried out by a task force of county and state police officers, as well as federal agents of the Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

FYI. That conversation we had long ago comes back to haunt me. This is insane.

Insane and inevitable. These fools are about to initiate something that once started, shall not be contained. The lessons of history are crystal clear as to our choices and what must be done.

Where are Ashcroft and GW on this?

They are statists. You won't find any help there.

Bush armed pilots and ordered Ashcroft to inform the Supreme Court that the U.S. officially supports the view that the 2nd Amendment protects an INDIVIDUAL'S right to keep and bear arms, something that not even Reagan or Teddy Roosevelt did.

GWB also has 2nd Amendment cases put on hold so that they won't reach the SCOTUS until two more liberals retire, thus freeing up the Court to end the current anti-gun madness after he gets two of his own on the bench.

Not that many people are clever enough to realize any of the above, however...

I used to worry about this stuff happening all the time, fearful of the outcome.

Now I just ask myself a question: "Self, are there 10,000 Citizens of the U.S. who will stand up and do the right thing when the time comes?"

The answer is yes.

And that is all that are required.

The snake does not have 10,000 heads.

If the BATF and SS are allowed to participate in this, then their superiors clearly support this. You make some extremly good points, but if innocent citizens are going to be harassed by federal agents over guns.....None of us can blame Clinton/Reno over this one.

This sounds more like the government trying to make things tougher for the law abiding gun owners again.

Living in the socialist state of California, I gave up some time ago and chucked my guns into the ocean. Think before you react.
