These are a couple of ditzy researchers who wrote a paper based on a hypothetical thought experiment; and oversight of scientific publishing has been a mess for quite a while.
This doesn’t represent a ‘sect, cult or religion’; and I doubt one that made infecting all of us with meat allergies as an article of faith would get very far.
