A British man has died after travelling for a hair transplant in Turkey.
The 38-year-old from the UK had travelled for the operation in the country, a popular destination for the trending treatment.
He had the procedure at a private clinic called CINIK in Istanbul’s Besiktas area and he became unwell after the surgery, according to Turkish outlet OdaTV.
However, the clinic has told Metro that the patient became unwell ‘unexpectedly’before the hair transplant procedure began during the ‘preparatory phase’ rather than during the operation.
The CINIK clinic said that it had carried out ‘all necessary medical evaluations and tests’ before the procedure.
‘These assessments were conducted under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, and the patient was cleared for surgery,’ the clinic told Metro.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was taken to the intensive care unit, OdaTV reports.
Despite medical treatment, he soon died.
His body has been taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy before being sent back to the UK.
Now an investigation has been launched into the death, with officials looking into accusations of ‘reckless homicide.’
An FCDO spokesperson told Metro: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.’
Full statement from the CINIK clinic The Istanbul plastic surgery clinic told Metro in a statement: ‘We are deeply saddened by the passing of our patient. In July 2024, the patient had previously undergone a successful hair transplant procedure at our clinic, and following his satisfaction with the results, he returned for a second procedure.
‘Prior to the second operation, all necessary medical evaluations and tests (including blood work, chest X-ray, ECG, etc.) were carried out thoroughly and without omission, just as they were during the first procedure. These assessments were conducted under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, and the patient was cleared for surgery.
‘However, before the hair transplant procedure began and during the preparatory phase, the patient unexpectedly became unwell for reasons that are still unknown. Immediate medical intervention was provided, and he was urgently transferred to a fully equipped university hospital. Despite ongoing intensive care treatment throughout the day, the patient sadly passed away later that evening.
‘Our clinic is an experienced medical institution that has performed over 70,000 hair transplant procedures to date. All relevant medical documentation related to this incident has been submitted to the appropriate authorities, and the matter is currently being investigated by judicial bodies.
‘Unfortunately, much of the information circulating in the media does not reflect the truth. Claims suggesting that the patient passed away during the procedure or that the operation was interrupted midway are incorrect.
‘The incident occurred before the hair transplant procedure had begun. Due to the ongoing legal process and out of respect for the family’s privacy, no further details will be disclosed at this time.’
Turkey has become one of the top destinations for cosmetic tourism thanks to lower prices and proximity to the UK.
Surgeons in the country perform around 60% of the world’s hair transplants.
An estimated 150,000 Britons travelled to the country in 2022 for cosmetic procedures, and medical tourism brings more than £2 billion to Turkey’s economy.
But some of the surgeries, often major operations, have not ended as planned.

So he wanted some turkey feathers???
Kind of like "Maryland Man".
Turkey has become the place to go for extreme discounts on cosmetic surgery.
Will you get a full head of hair, or death?
Spin the wheel and find out.
Did he go to Vlad the Impaler Hair Transplants?
Must have been a hair raising experience.
I’ve seen guys who had really fine looking semi-permanent hair pieces. You couldn’t tell they had one. Seems less expensive.
If you go bald grow a beard and tell people all your hail fell to your face.
Good grief man deal with it.
Mother Nature 1

Death is only a side effect.
Bald is beautiful
Even since I watched “The Midnight Express” I swore off any trips to Turkey.
LOL, like this?
I don’t see how any transplants can be that good. One can tell pretty easy. I’ve never seen any good before/after pics. Photoshopped.
I would have been cynical of dealing with a place named CINIK.
I wonder if he bragged to his friends about what a good deal he was getting.
So, they plugged him.
