Actor Dick Van Dyke, who turns 99 next month, suggested he would happily not be around to see the next four years under President-elect Donald Trump’s second term in the White House.
While some celebrities threaten to leave the United States in response to the 2024 presidential election results, Van Dyke’s Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) has taken an even more radical turn, with the actor saying he is grateful he won’t be alive to experience the 45th president’s second term.
“Fortunately, I won’t be around to experience the four years,” the Mary Poppins star said in response to a reporter who asked, “Do you think Donald Trump is capable of making America great again?” according to a report by Daily Mail.
After being asked, “Does the future look bright for America?” Van Dyke replied, “I hope you’re right,” while his wife reacted by saying, “Oh man.”
Notably, the actor endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in an Election Eve Instagram post in which he bizarrely likened the 2024 election and today’s political climate to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement by reading a speech he had originally delivered at an event with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on May 31, 1964. …

why not...his carrer died 50 years ago anyway.
wiki——Throughout his acting career he continued to teach Sunday school in the Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, and he continued to read such theologians as Martin Buber, Paul Tillich, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Van Dyke endorsed Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Dem presidential primaries.
In July 2016, while campaigning for Sanders, Van Dyke said of Donald Trump, “I haven’t been this scared since the Cuban Missile Crisis. I think the human race is hanging in a delicate balance right now, and I’m just so afraid he will put us in a war. He scares me.”
Van Dyke again endorsed and campaigned for Sanders in the 2020 Democratic primaries.
He endorsed Kamala Harris for president in 2024.
Mary was a liberal Democrat and was as kind and classy as you get. This guy has jumped the shark and it’s very sad, because he was great.
Whereas conservatives celebrate an imaginary MLK.
Conservatives cherry pick some words from one of MLK's speeches, pretend it summarizes all of King's philosophy, then further imagine that MLK would have froze in time. That the MLK of 2020 would remain the MLK of 1965.
Had MLK lived, he would likely have moved left with other "progressives." He would have supported Obama, BLM, slave reparations, defund the police, AOC, and "From the River to the Sea."
I didn’t know he was still alive.
Dick Van Dyke was beloved by all, and the legacy he earned as a funnyman and entertainer could have endured through the ages.
Then, consumed by an irrational hatred for a man who just wants to make America great again, he has just squandered his legacy and pissed off a hundred million of his erstwhile fans - what a fool.
Oh Rob!
.
How was he “ambushed”?
Hindsight is 20/20. None of us have any clue what MLK would have done had his life continued, so please don’t pretend you do.
Dimentia hallucinations
He has a much younger - and unattractive - wife so who knows what garbage she’s been filling his head with.
Your comment appears to come from the “Crazy Days and Nights” site. They seem to have the inside scoop on just about everyone “famous”.
True.
so please don’t pretend you do.
Tell that to all the conservatives who pretend that MLK would have been a Republican.
Conservatives cherry pick a single line from one of MLK's speeches, pretend that they can thus read his heart (many political speeches aren't sincere), then further pretend that MLK would have continued to believe those words.
And yes, I've heard many conservatives say "Had King lived he would have been a Republican! He would have hated Obama! His heart would break over what the Democrats became!"
If hordes of conservatives (yes, hordes) can claim MLK would have become a Republican, then I can throw cold water on their fantasies.
I haven’t seen any conservatives who “pretend MLK would have been a Republican”, not that the word “Republican” referring to the political party means anything like “conservative” anyhow. That’s not to disparage your obvious anecdotes, of course; but that’s all they are.
One usually only accuses others of “cherry-picking” when providing examples of restored context, too. I’ve gone back and researched King’s speeches, just to see if anecdotal accusations of them being terribly close to Marxism were valid, and nothing clearly stuck out, frankly.
These people are sooo sick.
Just reminded me of how Rush outbid MTM for Larry the Lobster... 🤣
The source is a European magazine. Considering that she went into porn and 90+% of all porn actresses were sexually abused, I would not discount it.
He’s a creep.
If you need a stronger source for the claim.
