Maria del Carmen Garcia was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in jail for the killing, which was later reduced to five-and-a-half years on appeal
A mother was overcome with devastation as she received a jail term for setting her daughter's rapist on fire and burning him to death after his release from prison.
Maria del Carmen Garcia couldn't bear the sight of her daughter Veronica's attacker, Antonio Cosme, after he was freed. At the tender age of 13 in 1998, Veronica suffered a brutal rape at knifepoint by Cosme, their neighbour, who was originally given a nine-year sentence.
However, during a day release in June 2005, the unrepentant predator brazenly confronted Maria at a bus stop close to her home near Alicante. Adding insult to injury, he had the cheek to ask Maria "how her daughter was".
After Cosme swaggered into a bar her family often visited, Maria, fuelled by anger and terror, bought petrol from a nearby station.
In a bid to inflict some form of justice, Maria entered the bar with the fuel, drenched Cosme in it and set him ablaze. With burns covering 90 per cent of his body, Cosme didn't survive and succumbed to his injuries days later in a hospital, reports the Mirror US.
Found disoriented around the port that evening, Maria confessed to the act. Claiming her intention was more to frighten or severely hurt him so he would understand a fraction of her daughter's pain, rather than kill.
Originally sentenced to nine-and-a-half years' imprisonment for murder, Maria's conviction was decreased to five-and-a-half years upon appeal. This sentencing sparked a national outcry in support of the anguished mother, with a groundswell of voices rallying to prevent her imprisonment.

Perfect. Good job, Maria!
GO MOM!
He won’t do that again. When the state refuses to give proportional justice to the crime, the people eventually do it themselves.
If the state properly executed child rapists, they could have saved her the trouble.
However, during a day release in June 2005...
The mom should get day release every day of her sentence.
And free drinks at the bar.
It would have been better if She had used a Flare Gun to lite the petrol.
Wouldn’t want Her to have flash burns.
Apparently her daughter Veronica did not lose her life as a result of the rape. Or am I wrong. So where is the proportionality? Are we saying the penalty for committing rape should automatically be execution? That sounds like something you’d find in Iran or Iraq. Not Spain. Just saying.

Yep!
Result......no rapes.
“That sounds like something you’d find in Iran or Iraq. “
No. There they make the raped girl marry her attacker or the family kills her in a shame killing.
Sounds like something right out of a Tarantino movie.
I’m in favor of the death penalty for child rape.
I’ll pull the switch on ol’ sparky. No problemo.
Unless you think we should rape the person found guilty of rape? They should be certain crimes not just murder that death is the punishment.
So would you all not have a problem executing a female high school teacher who has sex with a sixteen-year-old boy? You see how the two situations get reported differently when it is a female being the aggressor as opposed to the aggressor being male. I’m trying to understand why so many people think the punishment should be different for a male rapist versus a female rapist, and if it is, then are we saying that women in fact are intrinsically more valuable to society than are men? Are we even willing to admit that an adult woman under certain circumstances is perfectly capable of committing rape? I don’t see that anywhere in the discussions.
If they rape somebody it should be cut off.
If I’m on that jury (Yes, I know the civil law system is different and Judges rather than Juries pretty much hold all the power) I would have refused to convict. Any excuse - like temporary insanity - will do.
There’s a difference between a teenage boy WILLINGLY getting some from the teacher and 13 year old girl being violently raped at knifepoint.....then her rapist coming back to taunt the mother about it.
Are we saying the penalty for committing rape should automatically be execution?

Yes, what the F is wrong with you, weirdo? Maybe if you had a wife or daughter (or son) that got raped you may think differently. But you have spoken. And so have I.
People like you are the reason why we are ruled by violent perverts and freaks.
"Oh, the poor rapist! He comes from a culture that does not know any better!"
You’re sick.
