A new study has added fuel to concerns that America could face a surge in dementias in coming years and decades due to COVID.
The research found that nearly two-thirds of people over 65 who were hospitalized with the virus went on to suffer cognitive decline, which can be a precursor for dementia, weeks and months after the infection cleared.
Independent experts told DailyMail.com this is a trend they're watching closely, since if there is a link, it could affect the millions of older adults who were infected with the virus.
CDC data shows that over-65s accounted for nearly half of hospitalizations in the first two years of the pandemic, or roughly 1.7m people. The new study stops short of concluding that COVID and dementia are definitively linked, but experts described the evidence as 'compelling'.
Roughly 65 percent of over-65s in the study who were hospitalized with the virus had some degree of mild cognitive impairment, a brain-fog like condition which can sometimes be a precursor to dementia.
Researchers aren't sure why COVID could be causing these changes in the brain, but theorize it could have to do with inflammation or changes in blood flow, Dr Vin Gupta, a pulmonologist and public health physician not involved in the research, told DailyMail.com.
'Given the growing evidence from similar studies, the findings are compelling and somewhat expected,' Dr Pennie said.
No prior studies have concluded that COVID-19 causes dementia, but multiple previous studies have shown that there may be a link between the two, Dr Gupta said.

Unfortunately, Vaccinated people can shed the spike proteins to you and they enter your body without you knowing. I take a daily dose of quercitin/zinc/Vit C/Vit D to help my cells ward off attacks by the spike proteins. But at least WE did not get vaxxed, with all the unknown ‘ingredients’

Reminds me of the ridiculous “died of Covid” rather than “died with Covid.”. One of the most infamous was the guy who crashed his motorcycle and “died of Covid.”
As far as dementia / Alzheimer’s, I tell people who do not have issues, whatever their age, who make a mountain out of a once-in-a-while forgetfulness, I tell them that Alzheimer’s begins at birth. The two major examples are: “Where did I put my keys,” and when you walk from one room to another and do not remember what you were going to do, get, say, etc. I’ve helped quite a few people by displaying my positive attitude about memory by practicing the belief and phrase “it’s always in their (pointing to your brain)” Very often these days, there are distractions (music, TV, podcasts, etc) that you may not realize walking from one room to another. If you walk back to where you started, and retrace your steps, very often you remember. Once you get the hang of it, it is not hard. The phrase “use it or lose it” applies to the brain as well as the body.
If you BELIEVE your brain is crap, and repeat it often enough “my memory isn’t what it used to be” “my memory is failing” it will become a reality.
Diabetes (and pre-diabetes) along with obesity greatly increase the chance of getting dementia. And COVID.
This is probably another “Wet sidewalks cause rain” type of studies, linking the wrong thing via association.

heard “scientist” pushing study claiming only covid infection caused “long covid”, including signs of dementia etc.
mentioned some people want to push “long vax”, but no evidence for that. radio guy said he wouldn’t entertain any mention of the jab.

Personally I think a high probability is pretty obvious, but I am not a doctor, or at least not an M.D. and I have not done my own studies.
My wild theory is that if the mRna in the “vaxx” can cross the brain barrier (I have read many studies that say it does, and some that say it doesn’t) but regardless if it can and causes some of your brain cells to produce a protein that is blacklisted by your immune system eventually you will lose enough of them that you might possibly have cognitive or other issues that depend on the brain...
but certainly I know nothing and this is just speculation
Hmmm, take a shot that makes all your cells grow spikes, including in the brain, and your immune system identifies your own body as the enemy.
I’m figuring there’s a bigger wave of auto immune conditions on the horizon. Maybe what they’re seeing here is a new neurological one.
