Maybe it’s also time to rethink drinking?
Moderate drinking was once thought to have benefits for the heart, but better research methods have thrown cold water on that.
“Drinking less is a great way to be healthier,” said Dr. Timothy Naimi, who directs the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research at the University of Victoria in British Columbia.
Guidelines vary a lot from country to country but the overall trend is toward drinking less.
The United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Holland and Australia recently reviewed new evidence and lowered their alcohol consumption recommendations. Ireland will require cancer warning labels on alcohol starting in 2026. …

It says less alcohol or none at all. How is that defending alcohol? I don’t mean to be contentious, but the headline is not defending alcohol.
So by your logic any man who advocates for reduced or non use of alcohol must be a sodomist. Break that down for me.
French did lose most wars and Ireland is poorer than other Western Europe nations.
“Naimi” comes up as having a “Muslim origin” on a web search.
Naimi was educated in the US, but at liberal universities.
Winners of wars were not teetotalers themselves.
Ireland’s per capita GDP is higher than that of the UK, France or Germany.

Seems to me I read years ago that studies showed that a few ounces (say two drinks) of alcohol per day was better than none at all. I had no doubt back then that the bluenoses would try to bury that one.
UMASS Medical school is a pretty good medical school. It has little to do with the UMASS college system outside of the name.

I read an article a couple of years ago about the oldest living person in Indiana, I think she was 103, they asked her what she thought the secret to her longevity was and she said something to the effect: “Well I eat bacon everyday and at night I have two good shots of some good vodka.” I thought you go girl!

Most recent study recommended that people do not start drinking alcohol until they turn around 40.
Hubby’s parents were teetotalers.
They lived into their late eighties and nineties.
I drink some and still enjoy it, but I don’t try to fool
myself into thinking it is good for me. Any of it.
Correlation/causation dichotomy. Plenty of moderate drinkers also reach those ages.
St. Paul encouraged Timothy to drink wine—but we don’t know how old Timothy was at the time.
