Around one in five people run background checks on their online dates before meeting them, a new survey says — but who has time for all that rigmarole? Some 38% of respondents say they simply “stalk” their first dates online instead.
The survey of 1,000 singles, conducted in December by the Thriving Center of Psychology, comes as 127 million adults report being unattached.
Despite an astounding 91% insisting they find solace in their independence, one in three admit they are not content as a singleton. Half confessed to missing physical connection, while others feel like they are being left in the dust by friends who are married or taken.

For online dating? Only 20% of them?? People are idiots!!
Back in the dark ages when I was single I did not do the on-line dating thing and I still ran a criminal records check unless I had known the guy for a while.
Kept the nasty surprises to a minimum.
How much did it cost back then? Did you have to get his SSN?
You will not find your perfect match on line.
You will not find your perfect match anywhere.
Your Perfect Match does not exist.
Both Mary Poppins and Prince Charming are fiction.
SSN was not necessary. Name and address were enough.
A nationwide search would have cost me but I usually did not go that far.
Woman to girlfriend: So the guy I met only has misdemeanors-—no felonies. And he’s kinda cute.
Background checks are not cheap. At least they weren’t.
My wife and I did. Married almost 13 years, same religious faith, very similar likes and personalities, and both loved dancing. We have never had a real argument. We put each other first in our lives, but are supportive of some separate interests. Used to go to a men’s Bible Study on Sunday mornings, and I could see the envy when I told them I never realized a marriage could be so peaceful.
Her brother hated hated her first husband, but we hit it off right from the first time we met.
today you can get them done with the SSN provided(nationwide) for 30 bucks. not sure about the past though
I imagine the real reason for these checks is that they don’t want a fraudulent “pardner”. Most biological males want a biological female and most biological females want a biological male. Everything else is fraud.
Been verified
I use it for business
I would be more surprised if someone didn’t do this.
“Your Perfect Match does not exist.”
Tell that to my wife of 33 years.
She must be a saint
Then have sex with the organism full of undocumented organisms.
Makes sense. Make a baby too, then kill it.
Crae crae.
Men are such romantics.
Prince Charming and Mary Poppins are fiction.
What you marry is another living breathing human who is in no way perfect but that is ok because you are not perfect either.
You pick a person you could love, who is kind and that you have things and values in common with and that you are physically attracted to. Then, if you can get that person to marry you, you make up your mind to spend the rest of your life being faithful, kind and loving to that person. If you picked well, the other person will have made up their mind to do the same.
You make small changes to fit your lives together. You do not expect them to change but are happy when they also make small adjustments.
And at the end of life you will see that you got the happily ever after.
But it is all a choice. And a lot of work.
And if you are not putting in the work then it is your spouse and maybe you should pick up your share of the load.
“ She must be a saint.”
If she would have killed me she would have been out by now. Fact she didn’t says a lot. Mom
Good for you. A private investigator way back when would have paid for itself immeasurably. Oh well live and learn.
