The iconic Big Mac has been the head honcho on the McDonald's menu since 1967. While the recipe has remained the same over the course of its 55-year lifespan, the price of the famous burger has dramatically changed over time. And currently, it costs 40% more than it did ten years ago.
According to CNBC, the Big Mac is, in many ways, a powerful demonstrator of the inflation Americans are currently going through. Since the demand for Big Mac spans the globe, The Economist even created the Big Mac index in 1986 to monitor the burger's price against other currencies. Known as "Burgernomics," the idea uses the price of the burger to illustrate the purchasing power parity—including the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar.

Now costing an average of $6.05 in the U.S., the price of a Big Mac has grown even more than the rising cost of living, which is up by 37% in a decade. Between Dec. 2020 and Dec. 2021 alone, inflation soared to 7%, which coincided with the 7% increase in the price of a Big Mac. As CNBC points out, a "healthy" rate of inflation is 2 to 3% on an annual basis.
But the Big Mac isn't alone. Countless popular fast-food items are facing price hikes amid supply chain disruptions.

I like five guys but rarely eat there. Their loaded double burger, fry and soda...$20! Fugghedaboutit!
It’s been years since I’ve been to a 5 guys.
There is one a few blocks away.
Oh yes. The Mac Fish sandwich is still on the menu.
I just have to remember to tell them - hold the cheese!
I remember in 1960 you could get 5 good burgers for a dollar at some hamburger stands.
IN 1968 you could get a ho-hum MacDonald’s burger for 19 cents.
“a “healthy” rate of inflation is 2 to 3% on an annual basis”
No, a “healthy” rate of inflation is zero. Constant ceaseless inflation is a symptom of a broken monetary system.
Arby’s fish sandwich was very good.
My god. You are as old as I am.
It isn’t the cost of meat or labor driving the price increases at Miackey D’s...
It is the costs of finding, hiring, and training high-volume spitters...
If I’d known I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself!

Big Mac: 49% more price,

Just bitching on FR does not make you a critic. Who pays you? :D
“Meanwhile, I continue to cook burgers at home. I’ve perfected the smokehouse burger. I put slices of onion in the airfryer with some water or chicken stock and cook it for 3 minutes. Then I put the hamburger patties on top of that and cook them for 12 minutes. Some low carb mayonaise, burger, cooked onions, Cheddar and some Ray’s sugar free BBQ sauce. Pretty good.”

Same here.
I use a recipe taken from the latest Better Home and Gardens Cookbook. I take a 1.3 pound package of 85% ground beef, mix in salt, pepper, chopped onion, minced garlic, bacon bits and anything else handy. Mix this into the beef then form 4 patties dished in the center. Frypan for 8 minutes not touching the patty. Flip (once) and insert a digital thermometer into one of the patties, cook (uncovered) until the patty reaches 165 deg.
Place the patty on a bun and top with a sauce made of mayo, dijon mustard, pickle relish and diced jalapeno or curry powder. I love this sauce and I’m a former ketchup junkie.
The first time I remember hearing that statement was by Gene Autry.
I don’t remember who I first heard it from.
Good! Yes and fresh fruit whatever is in season. Be good to your self. You deserve it.
#43 Breakfast: Melt some real butter and add a couple of pancakes and 2 sausages and 2 eggs. Serve with sprinkling of maple syrup. Maybe hash brown patties if you can find them in the store these days! Lunch may be skipped or maybe late afternoon I make a sandwich. Peanut and jelly is good or turkey and ham and butter and mustard. Dinner is hamburger or chicken or some chicken soup I make in a big pot that can be used for lunch or dinner. I make rice dishes and spaghetti dish. Better then just canned soup and frozen dinners but they can be good too.
On occasion I splurge and buy Carl Jr or McDonald’s but after the sticker shock of buying a hamburger and chicken sandwich and french fries I feel not too satisfied with the meal.
#53 thanks, I just installed the app. You can get a Double hamburger for just $1.89 and a daily double hamburger with lettuce-tomato for just $2.49.... or a McDouble for $2.19
That is 2 slices of hamburger!
Why bother with the more expensive burgers?!
I usually feel rushed and order a quarter pounder. No more!
That sounds yummy. Had similar for breakfast but French toast on brioche bread. I make extra wrap it and heat in microwave for next day. Fortunately I enjoy cooking and love leftovers. It’s the cleanup I hate. How about some walleye and wild rice for dinner?
