I might normally have agreed with you, except that over and over again, I have seen my government lie and conspire against us.
My moment of awakening, to the fact that the government lies to us and covers stuff up happened in the Flight 800 crash over Long Island Sound. It was July 17, 1996, and I took a Mental Health day from work. I was tuned to MSNBC. Back in those days, MSNBC had not yet become an asylum for the politically insane, and actually had decent coverage about Clinton's many foibles, to eventually cover his scandals and subsequent impeachment.
Suddenly, Norah O'Donnell, who was working there at the time (and actually was a pretty decent journalist back then) cut into the programming with an announcement that Flight 800 had crashed, with no survivors. I moved right in front of the TV to watch.
Within 2 minutes, a video was posted that showed that the crash COULD NOT have been caused by a missile.
Wait, what???!?
No one had even mentioned the word 'missile'.... and the video was watermarked "CIA Video".
CRAZY.
Why would the CIA be producing this video within minutes of the crash? Why would it be distributing it so quickly? Why would it mention a missile, when NOBODY ELSE WAS?
These things set off my Whoa-This-Is-Weird-Radar.
Later, it was demonstrated that 670+ people saw a flame streaking up to meet the plane. You know, like a missile. One of those people was a National Guardsman, aloft in a plane, who just so happened to be a Missile-Plume expert.All of these witnesses were roundly scoffed by the government, and the official lie stood: It was a spontaneous center-fuel-tank explosion, and what everyone saw was the cabin section flying upwards.M
Despite the fact people were describing the plume flying up from the horizon-line, you know, the ground.

The motivation was obvious: If people thought a commercial airliner was struck by either a terrorist missile, or a friendly missile that went astray, airline traffic would collapse...and in 1997, Clinton did not need that distraction, not with his legal problems.
It was the first moment in my life that I realized that the government would lie to us, boldly and without shame, even when a half-a-thousand eyewitnesses contradicted them.
It was the first moment my vision became clear to just how venal and conniving the government could be.
Why then wasn’t there all this speculation about who shot Reagan?
I agree totally with everything in your answer to me. But in this one instance I think it’s been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, not beyond all doubt, that Oswald did it. JMHO

It goes back further than that: Gulf of Tonkin Incident, 1964.
A guy cut a piece of fabric from the wreckage and had it tested for the type of explosives used in missiles. He was prosecuted like he shot Lincoln. Yeah, the empty fuel tank blew up, took the cabin off, and the rest of the plane went vertical for a while. A low voltage spark in a tank empty of kerosene blew to kingdom come. How many bullet rounds were put through fighter jets and the fuel tanks didn’t explode? Millions? That is why they use the Kerosene type fuel in planes, it is not volatile.
Oh wait, I know how to win every dogfight in the world. Use tracer rounds in guns, and shoot at the tanks of the airplanes. No need for rockets or AA emplacements.
It was election year, and the day of the crash was a national holiday in Iraq.
Sorry, I lived on Long Island when Flight 800 was shot down. EVERYONE said “missile.” Literally, local radio had dozens and dozens and dozens of people on, and every last one of them who described seeing the event before hearing a boom described seeing a bright, white line launch into the sky, and hit the plane.

There was VIDEO of the missile hitting the plane.
It was played only once (that I know of) on TV and I happened to see it.
There was an outdoor restaurant or patio, and several people were sitting/standing around a table, and they were recording each other (it seemed to be a party of some sort).
When over the shoulder of one guy about a mile away in the background you could see a streak of light and smoke shoot up from the ground and an explosion when it hit something in the air.

Also, am I the only one who remembers a SECOND ‘warren commission’ that examined the JFK evidence and concluded that their PROBABLY WAS another shooter from the grassy knoll.
It was my awakening as well.
On JFK, one thing I’ve never seen analyzed is the SS cover up.
Unless the SS was entirely infiltrated with CIA, no other argument made sense to me re the fatal shot, and that was after MASSIVE amounts of research, including ballistics.
