Aren’t the democrats absolutely ridiculous?
A ‘trial’ makes sense, in the context of the successful coup by Big Tech, the MSM and crooked demonrats. A ‘trial’ before a kangaroo court, that is. Of course, a majority of kangaroos will be seated in the Congress after this session officially ends. Reminds me of 1789 Paris.

Belknap resigned. His term did not end.
Tell that to President Grant's Secretary of War, William Belknap, who was tried by the Senate AFTER he resigned. He said the same thing, -you can't impeach me, I resigned. I'm a private citizen. The Senate DID hold a trial and fell short of the 67 votes needed to convict.
Sure, Trump could challenge the legality of the trial, but I suspect SCOTUS would punt, and refuse to even consider the matter unless Trump was convicted. Since it's unlikely he would be convicted, he would likely end up like Belknap, impeached and acquitted.
Probably will punt on that too.

John Roberts should not play. You can’t impeach an ex-president. If there is an ounce of dignity left in the man, he should refuse to hold the trail because an impeachment is only against a judge or president. Trump will be neither after noon on January 20th.
