Are you happy now, Trump supporters?
The Washington Post ^ | October 14, 2019 | Max Boot, Neocon & #NeverTrump-er

President Trump isn’t the first American leader to turn his back on foreign friends who were counting on U.S. assistance: President Dwight D. Eisenhower did it in Hungary in 1956; President John F. Kennedy in Cuba in 1961; and President Gerald Ford in South Vietnam in 1975. But no previous chief executive has ever sold out the United States’ allies as nonchalantly and unnecessarily as Trump has done with the Syrian Kurds.

At least with Eisenhower, Kennedy and Ford, there was a good reason they failed to come to the aid of freedom fighters: Doing so would have embroiled the United States in costly conflicts. Trump and his apologists would like to pretend that’s also the case today — that Trump pulled U.S. troops out of northern Syria to avoid a war with Turkey. But there is scant chance that Turkish troops would have invaded northern Syria if U.S. troops were standing in the way. That is why President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked Trump to move the U.S. forces — and Trump, for reasons that remain mysterious, obliged. (Trump himself admitted in 2015 that “I have a little conflict of interest” because of two Trump Towers in Istanbul.)

The consequences of the American pullout are proving to be every bit as catastrophic as most observers — and Trump’s own aides — had feared. On “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper said that ever since coming to office about two months ago, he had been urging the Turks not to invade Syria. “We cited all the reasons that are now playing out,” he said. “The biggest being the likely release of ISIS fighters from these camps and prisons, not just that we see a humanitarian crisis emerging.”

So do we shoot at our NATO ally Turkey? Seems the government of Syria is stepping in to defend their border now.

We moved 50 troops or close to 50. This may have saved their lives. The neocon idiots want our troops to be human shields. Human shields are considered expendable. American soldiers are treated as a commodity. I guess they have a calculation that is something like a lottery for who gets to have what funeral. It really sucks when the lives of soldiers are valued less than the dislike of a political opponent.

The libs are only mad because the Kurds are Muslims. Democrats love their never ending wars.

Trump always has all the right enemies. It's uncanny. Somehow, he just susses them out.

If we've learned anything in the past week it's this:

The same people who've called PDJT a war-monger for the past three years are the very people who are pissed we pulled 50 soldiers out of Syria.

Who are the war-mongers now!

NONE of them are “foreign friends”... we spent a trillion dollars and massive American blood and we won't get a minutes thanks or an hour's worth of loyalty. We're probably being replaced as I type. The Washington Post can cry for the third world - they've never shed a tear for Americans so it's fitting..

Move our people out and protect OUR borders for once.

After World War II we knew how to make situations better - for us AND for the countries we defeated. We don't have that skill now because our State Department people are as stupid and corrupt as the Clintons...

If we're kickin' our own people off of welfare, we're damned sure gonn'a do it to the nations hangin' on to our apron strings.

We've given everyone on the planet, food, money, material, equipment, guns, ammo, planes and many men ... both combat and instructional.

Comes a time kiddies when y'gutt'a fly on yer own.

In answer to the question, yes, actually, I'm perfectly happy that we won't have people coming home in a box for somebody's idiot imperial ambitions, Max Boot's in particular. Man, he turned into a real piece of work, didn't he?

There are, to be sure, some things we'll miss, such as filching the latest Russian military exports from their clients for intelligence purposes. That, at least, was a clear military mission albeit a minor one. But given the notable absence of any clear-cut strategic, operational, tactical, or even political mission, I'm a bit at a loss as to the ComPost's sudden passion for boots (not theirs) on the sand in Syria. Training the Kurds to make war is, to say the least, a coals to Newcastle fantasy. They're pretty good at it.
