I want to ask before I forget. Have you ever heard of Jon Payne, supposed to be Madelyn’s youngest brother, who lived with them for 3 years on Mercer Island, before they moved to Hawaii? He claimed not to have learned for about 4 years that “Ann” had a son, according to the Maraniss book.
Her brother Jon Virgil Payne was born 1937 in Butler County, Kansas.
Never heard of him, maybe Brown Deer could tell us.
Meanwhile I do recall an article in which it was noted that none of the employees at the Bank where she was so imortant, had any idea she had a grandson until he and Maya would come to the bank after school and do their homework there while they waited for her to finish work.
When would that have been? When would Maya be old enough to have homework?

And you’re surprised Madelyn’s brother didn’t know about zero? How about her telling Virginia, the daughter of Stanley Armour’s brother, in 1982, that the reason they had been looking after the boy (who was by then on the mainland) was BECAUSE HIS MOTHER HAD DIED IN 197O!
Both Goeldners said the reaction has been mixed when they tell people the next president is their nephew her great-nephew to be exact. The new presidents grandfather, Stanley Dunham, was Ginnys brother. It was Stanleys wife, Madelyn, who was the grandmother who died the day before the election. But Goeldner said her sister-in-law was able to vote for her grandson through early voting, so her vote counted in the election that swept her grandson into office.
Goeldner said her sister-in-law actually raised Barrack Obama, or Barry as they called him, when he was young, after his mother died in 1970.

Because they left Kansas for Indiana in 1976, they said they didnt get to see her brother as often as they liked, but they did visit him in Hawaii, where several of the accompanying photos were taken.
