Never heard of him, maybe Brown Deer could tell us.

Meanwhile I do recall an article in which it was noted that none of the employees at the Bank where she was so imortant, had any idea she had a grandson until he and Maya would come to the bank after school and do their homework there while they waited for her to finish work.

When would that have been? When would Maya be old enough to have homework?

I’m glad you never heard of him because I haven’t either. I relied on your better memory. Who the heck is JON Payne? The Maraniss book claims he lived with them for three years. Anybody ever heard that Madelyn’s youngest brother lived with them while “Stanny Annie” was at Mercer HS? Thinking more about the Pratt daughter, who was a teen in those days, too: I’d expect her to have plenty of juicy memories of another teen, living in her house and hugely pregnant. Then the baby turns out to be black. Even if the Pratt girl didn’t live there (but I think she did), her parents didn’t talk about their house guests, which included the baby and mom living in the hall? Even if they lived in the cabin in the back, you’d expect her to hear about it. Why wouldn’t Madelyn have lived back there with her daughter who just had a baby at the tender age of 18 and didn’t even know how to change diapers?

I wouldn’t expect Maya to have homework until she was at least 6 years old—in first grade. Madelyny must have been very discreet if Barry was sent to live with her in 1971 but she never mentioned him until 1977 or so.
