Douglas Kennedy, Fox News correspondent and son of the late Robert F. Kennedy, has been charged with assault after a 7 January incident in a New York hospital.
2 nurses at the Mt Kisco hospital alleged that Kennedy became violent after they tried to prevent him from taking his newborn son Bo outside of the ward. Kennedy says he wanted to "get some fresh air" and had already received permission from other nurses on duty, Reuters reports.
The confrontation began after nurses issued a "code pink", an alert that someone is attempting to abduct a baby. The incident was partially caught on surveillance camera; although obscured by a doorway, nurse Cari Luciano can be seen falling to the ground.
Luciano stated that Kennedy "raised his right foot and with tremendous force kicked [her] in the pelvis area". Another nurse, Anna Lane, accused the New York-based journalist of twisting her arm, although this appears off screen on the surveillance video.
Kennedy has been charged with harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Kennedy and his wife have labeled accusations "absurd" in an interview with NBC New York. His lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, called the altercation the result of "aggressive and grossly inappropriate behavior by two nurses".
"Whatever Douglas did came about only because the nurse was lunging to grab his child from his arms. What Douglas did was simply to protect his baby," he added.
A date for the hearing has not yet been announced.
She’s 41, he’s 44. Boru is their fourth child, the first three are girls.
I agree with you. This seems to be another case of an institution elevating its own internal policy to the level of law whereas the legality of custody is the only determining factor.
That means you approve of assault on women.
You approve of women beaters.
kennedy should have waited when they told him no he has to wait. Kennedy’s don’t like taking no for an answer. Then he acted like an animal and used violence against a weak woman while holding a tiny infant, just because he didn’t want to wait. Was the fresh air going to disappear? hospitals have strict rules thanks to lawyers. They must follow to the letter or face big $$$$ losses, if something were to happen. If something happened on their watch, you bet Kennedy would be calling his ambulance chasing pals so fast it would make your head spin. Him and his lawyer would point the finger at the staff for their “negligence” for letting him stroll out the hospital and “breaking protocol” you betcha.
Absolutely I agree with you and poster Kaila.
you are right on the money. The hospital has rules. Douglas was irrational for reacting with violence over a silly unimportant stroll. It’s an immature reation or someone who is unstable.
That will be an interesting race. Republican Sean Bielat, the Marine who gave Frank a run for his money in 2010, is running again.
‘Under what legal authority did the nurse have to impede the father?’
The Catholic hospital at which my son was born two yrs ago told us that only the father or mother could take our son out of the glassed encased care unit, out of the merternity unit or out of the hospital. No exceptions.
Greg Kelly doesn’t work for Fox anymore but is on the local Fox channel in NYC.He had a woman charge him with assault but they prosecutor dropped the case for no evidence.
Our local maternity ward has a buzz in system and all the babies were bands that have the same chip they use for shop lifting that makes the alarm sound if one f taken from the area without the tags being deactivated. They put this system in years ago when they realized the hospital is about 5 minutes from I-70.

Exactly!
When this spoiled brat, Kennedy, was arrested, I wonder if they did any testing to see if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. ( Just wondering.)
Shep ran over a woman trying to keep a parking space.
While I understand the necessity of establishing policies to ensure the safety of newborns, hospitals and government have evolved into idiotic and fascist bureaucracies that believe they “own” the children, and the parents are only granted “custody” if and when the state determines they are suitable parents. Orwellian in thought and deed.
Good for Mr. Kennedy. Too bad, so sad for the fascist Nazi nurses that he beat down.
That's my take on it and I'm sticking to it.

The incident took place on January 7th. Kennedy wasn’t arrested until February 23rd. Unless he appeared intoxicated at the time of the arrest, there would have been no reason for testing.
In other words, incident took place on January 7th.
They got around to arresting him this past Thursday.
That doesn’t sound like it reaches the level of ‘wild drunken/doper on a rampage in a hospital’ event.
I can hear it now: “Don’t you know who I AM???”
Excellent summation, FRiend. I couldn’t have said it better, and I concur with you entirely. (I, too, hate Fat Dead Ted Kennedy, but that ain’t the point here.)
