Douglas Kennedy, Fox News correspondent and son of the late Robert F. Kennedy, has been charged with assault after a 7 January incident in a New York hospital.
2 nurses at the Mt Kisco hospital alleged that Kennedy became violent after they tried to prevent him from taking his newborn son Bo outside of the ward. Kennedy says he wanted to "get some fresh air" and had already received permission from other nurses on duty, Reuters reports.
The confrontation began after nurses issued a "code pink", an alert that someone is attempting to abduct a baby. The incident was partially caught on surveillance camera; although obscured by a doorway, nurse Cari Luciano can be seen falling to the ground.
Luciano stated that Kennedy "raised his right foot and with tremendous force kicked [her] in the pelvis area". Another nurse, Anna Lane, accused the New York-based journalist of twisting her arm, although this appears off screen on the surveillance video.
Kennedy has been charged with harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Kennedy and his wife have labeled accusations "absurd" in an interview with NBC New York. His lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, called the altercation the result of "aggressive and grossly inappropriate behavior by two nurses".
"Whatever Douglas did came about only because the nurse was lunging to grab his child from his arms. What Douglas did was simply to protect his baby," he added.
A date for the hearing has not yet been announced.
FOX NEWS REPORTER?????? They forget who made them what they are today — the top news cable station and they now kick us in the teeth with these leftists.
Complain to Fox, I just did.
If enough people complain, they will be forced to fire him.
“....will be subjected to the same Marxist abuse they sought against the fly over country Americans.”
.
No, not so.
Don’t you realize that the American elites live under a different set of rules?
They’re allowed insider trading, vote themselves a pay raise and do not fall under the Obamacare plan, which they voted for and have a retirement package that working stiffs in private industry can only dream about.
He is a Kennedy.
Way to go, MK!
Believe you hit ‘em so hard, they’ll still be choking on their brand muffins tomorrow morning. Man, that’s gonna leave a mark.
Shock and Awe: They’re shocked and your post was awesome.
Wow! Just walk out and leave the mothers and babies on the maternity unit without care? Really? That's a good way to endanger the the other patients ( and get fired.)
This is how rational people would handle the problem:
Ask to speak to the nursing supervisor, if that fails, call the public relations department of the hospital. The PR department is closely associated with the hospital attorney. If that doesn't suit you, then quietly and safely discharge yourself and the healthy infant from the hospital.
However....People who are not drunk, high on cocaine or meth, or spoiled brats fully understand the hospital kidnapping protocol well before admission to the hospital, and have the maturity and patience to wait the 2, 3, or more hours to make the arrangements to safely and in a non-confrontational manner, leave the hospital.
He named his kid after Obamas DOG???>>>>>
That’s my guess too.
...and what would a Kennedy wedding be without Uncle Ted?
Yeah they call him a “Fox News Reporter” when he is only a correspondent, it is as if Juan Williams or Alan Colmes went crazy and did something and they would use that to demonize Fox News itself.
That is one ugly woman.
You are right.
Also, if this baby was 3 days old,( and not discharged yet) there might have been a medical reason why the baby needed to stay on the floor.
Mother appears to be old, so it was a high risk pregnancy. The baby may have had medical issues post birth.
None of that is going to be revealed until the trial due to privacy laws ( HIPPA).
She looks older than he does.
Yup and Joe Kennedy D-Mass. from that pic is the dad
of JoeJoeJoeKennedy, the 31 yr old running for Barney
Frank’s seat.
“DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?”
The unidentified person with red hair in the pic may be JoeJoeJoe. He would have been about 18 or so.
Really?....Just because he is a famous “ Boy Kennedy” a nurse is supposed to know that there are no marital, pending divorce issues, or child custody issues going on? When did they start handing out crystal balls or mind reading machines with R.N. degrees?
Really? They are just to take the word of a doctor that they might not even met or seen before and the word of a friend from **that** dysfunctional family? Do the nurses know for certain that this man is a doctor?
And...Honestly, I can't imagine an ethical doctor asking a nurse to risk her job, risk his own professional reputation, and break such and important kidnapping standard just for something as **trivial*** as a stroll outside. ( That doesn't make sense to me either in this story.) If the doctor were a real friend to this spoiled brat, he would have explained this to the “Kennedy-boy” and advised him to wait for a safe discharge from the hospital before strolling about with his infant.
It is **exactly** for reasons like this, above, that protocols are in place for the protection of the infant, and it would be very unusual for mothers and fathers not to be well informed of these rational hospital protocols well before admission.
As a nurse, I have seen many screwed up social situations.
That is why hospital policies are in place.
For example: What if this Kennedy creep beat up his wife( birth mother) at home? The mother confides to the nurse that she is going to leave her husband upon discharge from the hospital. Now, the husband is leaving the floor with the baby.
There is a reason why these procedures are in place, because hospitals see extreme, horrible home situations all the time. Daily.
Good post. The problem here is most posters have no understanding how a maternity ward is run these days.
If Kennedy wanted to be able to walk outside for a smoke and take his baby with him he and his wife should have had the baby at home with a midwife. Once inside that maternity ward they must sign papers saying they agree with hospital policy and procedures.
Kicking a nurse rather than asking for a supervisor indicates that Kennedy is immature and unable to problem solve effectively. The nurse was most likely in some kind of uniform. Asking for her supervisor seems more appropriate than ignoring her requests to stop and kicking her in the pelvis. I hope she sues the living daylights out of him.
I suspect Kennedy has had some practice kicking women in the pelvis. It used to be widely rumored that the boys have been known to push their ‘girlfriends’ down the stairs - that’s in addition to stories about rufis -
I agree. A lot of nurses are small people on a power trip. Much like stewardesses, TSA thugs, and the entire public school system.
Then that means you are okay with beating up women with whom you have a disagreement.
It does not matter if they are on a power trip, the issue is whether assault was the correct means to end the dispute.
As a nurse, I do not want to be assaulted in enforcing hopital policy.
I hope he goes to jail.
Fox News refers to him as a reporter in his bio and lists him on their website under the category “Anchors and Reporters”, a subset of “On Air Personalities”.
