Sarah Palin attached herself to Donald Trump’s Birther conspiracy this weekend, throwing more fuel on a fire that won’t quit. The question no one appears to be asking, though, is “Would it be such a big deal if Barack Obama were born elsewhere?”
“I appreciate that the Donald wants to spend his resources in getting to the bottom of something that so interests him and many Americans,” said Palin, whose popularity has been steadily slipping, of Trump’s Birther crusade.
“He’s not just throwing stones from the sidelines, he’s digging in, he’s paying for researchers to find out why President Obama would have spent $2 million to not show his birth certificate, so more power to him.”
While surely Palin simply wants to make herself relevant in someway, her remarks—and the entire racist Birther debate—made me wonder whether it would matter if Obama were born outside of the States.
Yes, our constitution says that president must be American made, but it also says that being born in the States gives you citizenship, an amendment the GOP, targeting “anchor babies,” is more than willing to kibosh, so why not remove the presidential restriction altogether?
We live in a post-globalization world. The strict geographical and political boundaries our Founding Fathers knew are long gone. No longer are Brits our enemies, and no longer do our political offices need protection from interlopers. Human travel has become more fluid, and allegiance to America is shared by people from all walks, and continents, of life.
A person does not run for president to take over, corrupt or destroy a nation. There is no Manchurian Candidate. A man or woman runs for the White House because they have the nation’s best interest in mind, even if they weren’t born here. It’s not as if the presidency is a career chosen willy-nilly, or for nefarious purposes. It takes over your entire life.
If you need some proof, check out what Obama says he misses most about his pre-White House life: “I just miss – I miss being anonymous. I miss Saturday morning, rolling out of bed, not shaving, getting into my car with my girls, driving to the supermarket, squeezing the fruit, getting my car washed, taking walks. I can’t take a walk.”
Obama’s life—and that of his family—has forever been changed. Not because he wants to erode our nation or is some alien invader, but because he cares about this country and wants to do what’s best for it, just like any other person who runs for president. Even George W. Bush loved this nation and, despite his many, many mistakes, did what he thought was best.
It seems to me that today, the 21st Century, our highest office should be open to anyone who holds citizenship—whether by birthright or adoption—and who can win the voters’ hearts and minds. The rule stating presidents be born here is not only close-minded, it’s unnecessary, paranoid and archaic.
Nobody has to prove he is a foreigner. He has to prove he is a natural born citizen. Your statement sounds like Rush and Bill O....”There’s no evidence he WASN’T born in Hawaii.”
Again I’ll say “There’s no evidence he wasn’t born on Mars either.”
Obama’s actions are those of a person who holds a dual citizenship, which is the reason for the Founding Fathers to include naturalization. His loyalties are to more than one country, and I doubt the U.S. is his first love. And, his not being a naturalized citizen has put our nation on a downward spiral at the speed of sound.

Prove Obama is foreign.
Well, everyone — EVERYONE — on the left agrees that Barrack Obama Sr. is his father. Therefore, both parents are not U.S. Citizens. Therefore, Obama is NOT a Natural Born Citizen and is disqualified from holding the office of POTUS.
As for other “proof” — Obama controls through Hawaiian law access to his long form birth certificate. The burden is on OBAMA to prove he is eligible for office. Burden is not on us to prove a negative.
We now know (if the Hawaiian official yesterday is accurate) that there exists a long form birth certificate which the public has never seen. Why is Obama spending $2 million in DNC money (yours included??) fighting this issue in court rather than spending $30 to make the document public.
McCain had to make his public and the issue was considered (non-binding resolution sponsored by Obama) by the U.S. Senate.
Is Obama somehow held to a LOWER standard solely on the basis of his race?
Isn’t that racist — expecting less of (half) blacks? Seems that it is.
Well, if he was a foreigner his presidency would be null and void. He’d be a non-president. Which means the law could simply grab him, wring the truth out of him and eventually punish. What’s the limit??

Sounds like the left is plowing the field for the Kenyan birth certificate to surface. So what if he was born in Mombassa, Kenya with an African/Arab father and a mother too young to confer citizenship. Minor details.

Obama will be stripped of every single designation of ever being POTUS, he will never have Secret Service protection in the future.

My statement was prompted by the title of this thread - "What if Obama were foreign?" Whatever definition of natural-born citizen you care to use has nothing to do with that.

OK, Mr. Belonsky. So the world has changed from the time of the Founding Fathers. There is a process to consider how those changes should be allowed affect our government. It’s called a Constitutional amendment that cannot be implemented just by wishing it were so. Idiot.
If Obama is not eligible, he needs to be removed from office, everyone who particpated should be prosecuted along with him.
Anyone who worked for him should be removed, including Joe Biden.
Any bill he signed or executive order should be null and void.
