Apple has launched their iPhone Case Program via an iOS app.
Follow these steps to apply for a Bumper or case.
1. Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store.
2. Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID.
3. Select your Bumper or case.
For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010. Read terms and conditions.
The iPhone 4 Case Program app is available via Apple's iTunes Store here.
Fair enough - I was just kind of shocked that Apple would be used as a sign of openness and support for the free flow of information, especially in light of their highly restrictive treatment of the iPhone and App Store...
The echoes of Apple's legendary, iconic "1984" Macintosh ad are still reverberating in the brainpans of most Americans, even those who were not around in 1984 to see it. Apple has carefully kept their anti-establishment image alive for 25 years.
To understand Apple, one must separate the concept of artistic/creative freedom from technical/ownership freedom.
Apple's version of freedom is the former -- "We will supply you with the best single-source tools in the world, to let your creativity express itself and do things you cannot do with any other products. We will make this easy and fool-proof, so that you don't have to worry about the technical details."
This is a direct contrast with the latter, which is best exemplified by Linux -- "We will all cooperatively work on tools that aren't ever quite right, but you get to contribute to them and improve them yourself. We expect you to learn the technical details, but in return, with some effort, you can do whatever you want with these tools."
Linux is free and open, but takes a fair amount of effort to get working. Apple costs money and is closed, but is dead simple and just works. Seems to me that choice is good. I use them both.
I also use Windows, which is neither free nor open, nor is it dead-simple, and (until Win7) it did not just work. But that's a whole 'nother angle... :)
Is there a valid reason for you to come in flaming and disrupting these apple threads? I suggest you back off.
How about just moving on to a different topic and leaving these folks alone. It’s no skin off your back if they like Apple.
Keep up the disruption and you will definitely get your wish.
That goes for everyone. I don’t see any reason whatsoever to be having flamewars on FR over computer products. Those who have a problem with Apple should just not buy the product and that takes care of that. Don’t come to FR to flame those who like the product. That’s just dumb. Who cares what computer products people use.
Everyone on these threads need to lighten up! On all sides!!
I have the white GS, so I must wait for the white 4. And if they DO change the antenna somehow, even BETTER.
Well, seems I missed the fireworks and Jim himself has posted laying down the law of civility. THANK YOU. GOD BLESS YOU. Guess I can ignore the 20 other nasty pings I missed while doing casework tonight.

Hugh! And Series! There has been a catastrophic 4% drop in Apple's share price since the iPhone 4 came out, which means that those poor bastard shareholders are only up by 225% in the last two years.
They call it cutting-edge because it's sometimes painful and bloody. It's a glitch. In a year, two at most, everyone will have forgotten about it except the Apple-bashers who will add it to their litany right after exploding laptop batteries and one-button mice.
I think I want to open a bar called the Faraday Cage.
Flame Wars are not welcome on Free Republic!
Look up thread for Jim Robinson's Statement.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
“They call it cutting-edge because it’s sometimes painful and bloody. “
Yes, and every tech company has the problem.
Please name an innovation from Steve Jobs.Gates has the market sewn up ... but Steve Jobs truly INNOVATES. They are like two sides of the same coin.
Apple II.First mass-market GUI OS.
iPod
Basically, Apple adds features and quality to known products, producing not perhaps the best that can be made, and not the one which will sell the biggest market share - but the best mass-market products in category. And bends the categories, too.
But he is so good at making and marketing the best mass-market digital devices that he practically invented that market niche. He leaves the niche of "largest volume" to Microsoft et al - and still has a bigger gross, and market cap, of any digital device maker.
“WOW mine can in today by Fedx. Ordered it on Monday and got it Friday from att.com. This phone is smokin fast compared to the 3g. Impressed.”
WOW, you got far faster service than I did! I stopped by a local AT&T store, ordered the upgrade, and was told 5-10 business days. I got an email yesterday (six days after the order) saying it was ready for shipping with tracking number. As of yesterday it was about halfway here...I’m excited about seeing it firsthand!
I’m a bit annoyed that I can’t order a case until I have the phone in hand, guess I’d better keep the “gift horse” homily in mind. Next time I’ll look at ordering online.
Enjoy your phone!
I look forward to getting back to discussing the pros and cons of stuff on the tech threads (whether they be Apple or Windows or Linux or whatever) without the unnecessary provocative crap, from any side.
Thanks, Jim.
Personally loved the apple and anti apple trolls. Was good stuff.
Now on to why the Active tab doesn’t work.
