I recently purchased a new, very powerful ASUS laptop running Windows 7 pro and this operating system works like a charm; it is easy to use, it has accepted everything I have thrown at it: no BSOD’s and it works and looks great. I stuck with Windows XP for almost 10 years and refused to switch to... VISTA (blech). Both of our sons are high tech programers that beta tested Windows 7 and their conclusion was it is a stable operating system that does what it is supposed to do: work. So I took the plunge after it was released (as did both of them) and all of us are very happy with Windows 7.

I’m not too familiar with ATI gear...I had a sturdy little 7600GT in my old box.
Maximum RAM limit for 32-bit Windows 7 editions is 4GB, But for 64-bit additions, its as follow:
* Windows 7 Starter: 8GB
* Windows 7 Home Basic: 8GB
* Windows 7 Home Premium: 16GB
* Windows 7 Professional: 192GB
* Windows 7 Enterprise: 192GB
* Windows 7 Ultimate: 192GB
Thanks. I use up almost 2gb o my 3g on XP daily running my 5 major apps, though restarting Firefox after a while with its 70+ tabs (16 across, with pitch dark theme and TMP resizing) will restore about 500mb.
64 bit slowly is becoming the preferred OS, but 192GB for Ultimate? Who would need all that, but one time 500kb seemed to be the limit.. Must be a way to increase Windows 7 64bit basic.
Yes i use a tweaker app to get rid of those shortcut arrows.
for explorer, there is a safe freeware apps called QTTabBar that i used when under Vista. http://qttabbar.wikidot.com/
With XP/Vista, right clicking on the Start button and choosing Properties will give you that option, but this has been nuked by W/7 (MS knows best).
The site below says that where the Classic Start menu is in Windows 7 is the most common question which Windows 7 users ask them, and it and others refer to CSmenu as the answer: http://www.askvg.com/how-to-get-good-old-classic-start-menu-back-in-windows-7/
QTTabBar might be something to consider.
cool beans, thank you very much
