A widely regarded Southern symbol of pride and states' rights is standing in the way of would-be Marines in their quest to serve their country a Confederate battle flag.
Straight out of high school, one 18-year-old Tennessee man was determined to serve his country as a Marine. His friend said he passed the pre-enlistment tests and physical exams and looked forward with excitement to the day he would ship out to boot camp.
But there would be no shouting drill instructors, no rigorous physical training and no action-packed stories for the aspiring Marine to share with his family.
Shortly before he was scheduled to leave Nashville for boot camp, the Marine Corps rejected him.
Now, the young man, who wishes to remain unnamed and declined to be interviewed, has chosen to return to school and is no longer an aspiring Marine.
"I think he just wants to let it go," said former Marine 1st Lt. Gene Andrews, a friend of the man and patriotic Southerner who served in Vietnam from 1968 through 1971. Andrews is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group of male descendents of Confederate soldiers. He counseled the young man when he decided to become a Marine.
"He had been talking to me, and he was all fired up about joining," he told WND. "He asked my opinion of it, and I just tried to tell him the truth, good points and bad points."
When the young recruit didn't go to boot camp, Andrews learned of his rejection based on his tattoo of the Confederate battle flag on his shoulder.

I wonder if tattoos promoting jihad are allowed?
Look up "The Star Spangled Banner" and the war that inspired it.
Before that, there was the conflagration we refer to as "The Revolutionary War." Now, Britain may not have "attacked" the United States at that point (due to the fact the colonies were not yet "The United States"), but they certainly attacked colonists, a whole list of the nefarious deeds were addressed in the Declaration of Independence.
You will find I am intolerant to the point of violence in the face of insults to Abraham Lincoln.
You sound like a damn yankee.
these threads always show the sorry state of conservatism
Nonsense. Why was Jeff Davis never charged with any crime then?
The South is the Confederacy. The reasons were wrong 100 years before but the rights were right a 100 years later. get a grip, it isn’t that hard.
Uh oh...
I'm curious, where did you learn your "facts"?
You forget the /sarc tag?
Where did YOU go to school. Ever hear of the War of 1812? Great Britain did indeed attack the United States. Burned down the White House and set the President to runnin’....
No wonder the GOP and our nation is in such a mess. This has absolutely nothing to do with who attacked whom. This is strictly racial grievance BS and if you think it will stop here as we become more multicultural and more left leaning you better get your head out of your ass. Slavery and ‘racism’ is the battering ram to destroy all that is white and Western in the US. The founders and much of American history up until about 1960 are all fair game particularly since most whites cower in fear over being white and our history. It is only a matter of time before the Marxist fixate on Washington, Jefferson et al just as the Confederacy and Christopher Columbus are now. They have it easy in destroying our nation too because so many whites want to help.
The British attacked us in the war of 1812( burned Washington). We won. When the “civil war” started the Confederate States of America was a soverign nation. President Buchacann( 15 th President) ordered a peaceful transfer of all Union bases in Confederate states to Confedercy. When lincoln became President a few months later he ordered a secret attack against Confederate forces to start a war to reunite the nations. p.s 75% of federal budget came from taxes on the south, guess what really started the war, MONEY Should the south be denied the right to have pride in their History.
Later on in American history, to achieve peace rather than vengeance, Harry Truman approved of Hirohito retaining his position as Japanese Emperor.
These are difficult decisions at the time, and sometimes the reasons behind them get lost to history.
damn you are stupid.
meanwhile...what about the Mex flag...they attacked us too?
guarantee you that is in the Marines
and btw for the resident Yankee pillow biters here...southerners were your kin till you tried to walk on them so kiss my ass with that “we were a foreign power” talk
and we had no desire to conquer the US...just be separate from yer dumb self righteous asses
and from the looks of how things have turned out since...we were mostly right
you guys are still the most screwed up part of the country
And Lincoln suspending the Constitution? Arresting legislators? Printing fiat money?
My father had thought he would go into the Navy or Marines so he ended up with a tattoo showing a globe an anchor.
Instead he found an opening in the Army Air Corps and had the globe and anchor over written with a gigantic eagle with a shield holding arrows, etc. in his talons.
All things are possible grasshopper. This young man can get into the Marines if he really wants to and prizes his patriotic ardor more than his tattoo.
All good stuff. Man had a war to fight and slaves to free.
