The problem is that Obama can’t prove he was born in Hawaii. My bet is that he doesn’t really know because it was reported to the state registrar’s office by unreliable sources or documents.
I think he knows he wasn’t born in Hawaii. That’s why he told Race Bannon in the summer of 1980 that he was born in Mombasa.

In "Dreams," though most likely written by Ayers, Obama says he found his BC many years ago, so it almost certainly wasn't an abbreviated HI short-form, but an original long form, if the account is true. Of course there is a blanket denial of accuracy at the front of the book.
As he moved towards considering taking the oath of office he would have a legal, moral, ethical and patriotic duty to resolve any doubts there might be regarding his eligibility, in my view.
