PHOENIX The mother of a 17-month-old boy found dead after he was left unattended inside a hot car for at least seven hours in a north Phoenix Hooters restaurant was arrested on one felony count of negligent homicide.
Police say the woman, Ashly Duchene, 22, left her son in her car when she arrived at the north Phoenix Hooters restaurant where she works at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. When she returned to the car after her shift at nearly 5 p.m., her son was dead.
Efforts to revive the boy by witnesses, officers and firefighters were unsuccessful. Police Sgt. Joel Tranter said temperatures hit nearly 90 degrees Tuesday, but that it would have been more than 100 degrees inside the car.
FOX 10 Phoenix reports the baby's mother had planned to drop the child off at childcare before heading to work at a restaurant near Bell Road and Interstate 17.
Instead, authorities say the mother went to work with the child still inside the car.

The baby was in a car seat in the backseat of a Honda Civic, which had very dark tinted windows. Officials believe that made him unnoticable to people going in and out of the restaurant and a car wash next door, the Republic reported.
It's unknown if the mother will face any charges in the child's death. Tranter said situations like this are handled "on a case-by-case basis."
So far, there have been no arrests.

I love it when you militantly nonjudgmental types try to bash to death a poster who does not share your instinct for the gutter. Makes a ridiculously ironic spectacle.
“You oughta be used to it. ; )”
Yeah but I’m all reformed now, found Jesus and the whole thing....new life.
It’s been fun, good night.
how can a mother let herself be a panderer for the lowest kind of trashy behavior for an equally trashy public?
now that's the question.....
I am sure there are....
but realistically, Hooters is reaching out to people one tiny step above strip joints ....that's the way they advertise and that's what they want to be known as....
her best friend has been a stripper and she made tremendous money....many times over the money my dtr made....
I try to put it into perspective to my dtr about how life does not play fair even when you do all the right things ...but its tough to explain how stripping can get you tons of money yet doing a regular job and paying taxes on your meager wages gets you so little...
let's face it..girls put on the tight sweaters and short pants at Hooters for one thing only.....more money than can be made elsewhere besides a strip club.....
It is about choices...
Are we going to have to mandate that auto manufacturers put sensors in cars to prevent it (if there's any weight in a seat, say, or an IR source in the car, the locks pop open or will not lock at all, the windows roll down, and the horn sounds)?
Yes it is...But sometimes you may find you really don't have much of a choice. I don't think working at a Hooters for a short time is so bad personally. Its taking care of what she needs to do now. Face it we have girls in casinos, bartenders & girls in other jobs who are hired for their looks. I know executives who will hire a woman for her looks rather then her brain. Its sad.
This story is very sad because someone could have stepped in & got the child from her . There was no reason for this child to die.
#209 -> #4 (me) I made a response to nhm about child abuse and neglect. I posted this comment after reading the article and the first few posts; i.e., nhm's post #4 #214 -> #219 (you) You hammered me for things I never said and for some reason I have yet to understand. #219 -> #210 (me) I made remarks to gracesdad that involved the term ADD which by the way was inappropriate. You were NOT on this thread line. #220 -> #214 (me) I asked for clarification confused about your remarks in #214 #224 -> #220 (you) You inject the term ADD into our thread line and confirmed that your leading accusations were directed at me. #233 -> #224 (me) I'm still confused as to why your bludgeoning me, so I attempt to explain myself and ask you to stop twisting my words. #237 -> #233 (you) Credit to your persistence, you continue on your crusade and state: "You brought up the ADD, & you can't seem to get things correctly." #246 -> #237 (me) Still unsure of where you're coming from, I make the comment fully aware of my ADD remark to someone else: "You injected ADD into our conversion, not me." #259 -> #246 (you) And with the hammer labeled ADD at your side, you've concluded: "Hey there it is for all to see!! You brought it up not me word twister."
Don't try to twist it please. I can post to anything I want to. I happen to agree with much of what you said in fact. This child did not have to die, a grandparent or someone could have taken the child.
However slynx's daughter nor slynx deserved those mean remarks made at her or her daughter. Spin all you want. Its all there for anyone to read. You did it first. I stand by my posts and I happen to be right. If you can't face that then you can't read.
>> You also brought up the grandparents thing which was either a remark or directed to slynx.
>> However slynx’s daughter nor slynx deserved those mean remarks made at her or her daughter.
If I wanted to insult slynx and slynx’s daughter, why would I use the term grandparent?
>> If I was wrong,sorry.
That’s cool. I’m not the mean bastard I think you were envisioning.
Great, I’d rather be friends then not. I do agree with you on that poor child. I feel badly that the mother was so stupid. If what the real truth is, that people knew she was unfit then I feel they too are in the wrong. So sad when there are many people who would have loved that child. Good night & glad we got it straightened out. ~Pandora~
It is not "Ugly" to Judge people whatsoever, as long as you judge rightly. Hooters is all that NMH says it is, it is a low place on the totem pole in what it offers (which is semi-nudity bikini variety sex a few steps below strip joints). The judge rightly comes in looking beyond the surface and we are given many details... location to work, flexible hours etc, competitive pay for "pretty" ladies... Those perks (excuse the pun) are probable pretty alluring, but the fact of the matter is the establishment is one that peddles "sex light".
As much as it rashes you, NMH is right to point this out. The women that work there either are careless to the implications of this Biblically or in dire straits in need of a job. I can't see much more need than one of the poster's daughters with having a baby and needing a job bad, but I also have been raised by a mother that raised 3 young kids by herself also without resorting to selling out. My mother mowed yards, she drove a chow time bus, she worked and did night school too. Grandmother that had cancer and needed as much help as she gave was able to help us with a house to live in, and things were dang tough, but it was achievable.
I am gonna have to side with NMH on this one and yes I don't have all the facts, but one would have to be pretty dang desperate to work at Hooters, and I think perhaps some people sell out too soon. We are all given "hills" to overcome in this life, and they ain't always easy ones, but our character is the balance.
Said the moralphobe...
I’ve been to a Hooters. The food was less than good.
