So you finally know what happens to Harry. All our questions are answered. Or not. What are your reactions? Whose death hurt the most? Do you want more, and about whom?
SPOILERS are ok on this thread! You have been warned!
Wow. It's over.
I still vote awesome. The whole plan hinged on him.
I liked that Neville had a pretty cool role, too.
But she didn’t have to kill Fred, and if she had to kill Lupin and Tonks, at least she could have made it less of an aside. :-\
Also seemed like there could have been a lot less running around in the woods and bickering in the first half of the book, but...oh well.
I agree about Hedwig ~ I’d not expected it and was saddened. Hedwig had been a great owl and such a help to Harry...
Dobby’s death made me sad as did Fred’s. I too, was hoping maybe Percy would have gotten to save him as a form of redemption.
Totally loved the way Snape’s background, love for Lily, loyalty to Dumbledore and the like was given. Great background on someone we’d all most likely wondered about off and on through all the books!
I loved, LOVED LOVED this book! I tried so hard to go slow so I could savor it and it wouldn’t end, but *sigh* ~ it did. Hubby went to Wal-mart this a.m. and was home with it by 7:30 a.m., which was sweet of him!
I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did.
Those 2 parts were FABULOUS! I can’t wait until they get to the movie to see those scenes! Neville was so awesome!
Best kept secret...
Ralph’s grocery stores (So Cal version of Kroger’s)... 24 hours. No waiting.. Just a Manager with some boxes of books locked in his office carted down to his kiosk at 11:55, opened at 12:01, and the cash registers rang. With Club Card : $20 not $35...
I walked into our local Walmart at noon on Sat. Greeter handed me a red plastic Gryffindor bracelet, a neat little HP poster, and an HP bookmark. Went up to the big book display and got my book. Price? $17.78.
That struck me too. I was hoping he wouldn't get knocked off. He had such a sad life, he was a good guy who took alot of heat (some deserved!) and the whole thing really hinged on him. He should have lived.
And Tonks and Remus........why did she need to be bumped off? It seems ridiculous to have them have a baby and then kill them off just so Harry could come full circle and be a godfather.
I wake up about 5 times every night normally, so, when I had the usual wakeful moment at 1:00am, I drove to Walmart, where they had a pallet of books just sitting there. A family actually showed up from a semi-distant Borders(?) where they had been stuck in line, and the older kid, sees the pallet and exclaims “I can’t believe it!”
I got home and starting reading at 2:30, at 6:00am, my nearly 12-year-old son woke up and took it from me. He was done by 12:15pm, including a 2-hour family outing to see a Capt John Smith recreation. (that was less than 6 hours!) Me? I didn’t finish until 11:00 pm. I kept re-reading paragraphs to make sure I really got what was happening.
So everyone, what would Dumbledore see in the Mirror of Erised? It’s not coming to me....his sister, what?
Great book!! btw, the elves apparate into Hogwarts... ;)
So many wonderful things about the book, my head was swimming well after finishing the book in the wee hours this morning.
I’d like to thank my hubby for trying to keep the kiddos somewhat occupied from lunchtime throughout the rest of the day so I could get my book from the mail and read it.
In answer to my own question about a Muggle doing magic-
On page 64, fourth paragraph, Ted Tonks tells Harry, “...Anything else broken? I’ve fixed your ribs, your tooth, and your arm, I’m Ted by the way-Ted Tonks, Dora’s Father.”
Since Harry’s tooth had been knocked out, I am assuming that Ted Tonks did magic.
Now that I have finished reading the book, I feel I have to re read the story from the beginning with a “new pair of eyes”!
I was warp speed weeping when Dobby bought the farm..I hated it when Hedwig got popped by the Avada Kedavra, too.
I liked that Narcissa, whether to protect her family, and get in the castle to search for Draco, or because Voldemort's stint as her house guest was a wake up call, or both spared Harry's life.
On this re-read, I will have more tissues handy.
I assumed his family reunited, and alive, since that is why he "was a fool", and put on the cursed ring-to bring them back.
I was really touched that Hermione gave up her family to protect them, and that she obliviated any memories they had of ever having a daughter.
Since she named her children after them, I thought that she must have never unenchanted them.
I liked watching Ron following the advice from the book Fred and George gave him on how to score with witches.
You know, I never thought of it the way you did ~ that since Hermione named her childred after them she may never have unenchanted them. Interesting take.
I think that’s part of the reason I looked forward to this thread so much ~ seeing how others interpreted certain parts.
Local supermarket had them at midnight. No line to speak of. Walk in, pay $17.99, walk out.
LMAO! I knew it! I LOVED when Kreecher showed up leading the house elves!
I’m with you- voting for awesome. He played his part perfectly and was instrumental in protecting Harry and defeating Voldemort.
I had that exact same feeling when I finished. There are probably so many clues we missed.
OK, I laughed out loud when I read, "...and I've learned a lot. You'd be surprised, it's not all about wandwork, either." Wandwork! She said wandwork,
Bookmarked for later....after I pry the book out of my wife’s hands and read it myself.
