Now here’s a weird one: Page 328. Anoreth (my oldest) has James Potter’s birthday. Vlad the Usurper (my youngest) has Lily Potter’s birthday. And both Potter’s died on the birthday of Tom (my weirdest).
Woodle - WOODLE - woodle - WOODLE ...
Not by... um... anyone whose opinion I have respected much, most people would see Hermione as Rowling’s “self insertion” rather than Ginny.
Tonks and Lupin were easy to miss. Very off-screen.
Neville pulled the sword from the Sorting Hat, just like Harry in CoS, because he is a true Gryffindor.
As a former HP fanfiction writer myself, we worked really hard to try to make our stories fit her world as much as possible, to predict or fill in where she had not yet written. So if the ending reminds you of fanfic you’ve read, that’s less because of a flaw in JKR than because of talented writers :-)
I had the same reaction to Snape’s memory scene in “Order of the Phoenix”. I wrote fanfiction about Harry’s dad and friends at school, as did most of my fandom friends, and I would have sworn one of us had written that scene in a story somewhere. Heh.
Yeah! Wasn't it great? :)
I loved the book, loved the fight scene, but hated Fred dying and Dobby. I was crying when Dobby died. :(
I nearly cried for Fred. Dobby was not nearly the impact that Fred was. I was so sad that George wasn’t there. I don’t want to picture the scene where Mr and Mrs. Weasley, and George, find out.
~IF~ she changes her mind and wants to write more, I'd rather see her go back and write the story of the original Order of the Phoenix.
You don’t like happy endings?
To me, it was like sunrise after a dark and stormy night. Puts perspective on everything that’s gone before and tells us that, magic or not, family life and growing up are the ordinary way of things. Wild adventures and dark lords are Not Real Life. Getting married and raising kids together, that’s Real Life.
And, um, would actually have had page time in the books.
Non writers don’t understand that the main character is not always the one most like you or the one you’d secretly like to hook up with. I don’t think Rowling could “fall in love” with Harry, not enough to insert Ginny as her stand in. I think she sees Harry like her child, and every mother wants to see her son married off happily to someone who can make them happy.
I too, was hoping maybe Percy would have gotten to save him as a form of redemption.
But did you notice Fred was the first to shake Percy’s hand when he came back and once he did the whole family started to hug him? And he was fighting with Fred?
I really enjoyed it. I’m listening to the Jim Dale audio now.
I originally planned to go to Border’s, but checked with the local Wal-Mart Grocery on Friday afternoon to see if they would have the book. I skipped Border’s, showed up at Wal-Mart at 11:55, and was on my way home with the book by 12:05. I drove by Border’s out of pure curiosity and saw a huge line that extended onto the sidewalk. I smiled and went home.
Which wand had actually killed his sister...his or Grindewald’s. He never looked to find out, was scared to.
Walmart had the cheapest price.
Great contradiction here... The ironic thing is that if the majority were willing to stand up there would be no Voldemort or Death Eaters. The silent majority greatly outnumbers the Death Eaters. However, they refuse to do anything. I’m sure that that secretary has sat there day-in and day-out taking dictation while Umbridge sentences people to Azkaban. And the janitor never thought of anything about the horrible people he was working for until his wife was caught. And all of Umbridge’s employees merrily went about making vile propaganda even though they hated their boss..
It never occurred to any of these people to stand up for what’s right, to question anything... The only thing needed for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing.
