Am I the Only One who is sick and tired of "I'd Hit It"?
VANITY | TODAY | SELF

Posted on 04/20/2007 11:50:28 AM PDT by CharlesWayneCT

I've never posted a straight Vanity before.

But I am sick and tired of this good conservative, generally religious site being overrun by people posting "I'd hit it", whenever a picture of a good-looking girl is displayed.

It's demeaning, it's immoral, and I guess I'm just a prude but announcing to the world that you'd like to have sex with a woman based on her picture, like she was some object, hardly seems like the appropriate attitude on a conservative political site.

But rather than post in response to any particular person, I figured I'd just vent here where everybody could see and make fun of me.

So go ahead. I thank you for whatever indulgence you have given me in this rant.

Back to your regularly scheduled oggling and hitting.

Look at some more of the comments in this thread. The ladies can get just as randy as the guys. If you don’t like it, move along.....

"You can’t have fun at the expense of all women without getting flack."

You can't shame the unashamed.

For many, as long as there is pain, or the memory of pain, no one else is allowed to have "fun" at all. It just isn't respectful.

Most of the rest of us accept that what doesn't kill you can make you stronger. Sure there's pain. There always will be.

But there is also delight, wonder, and the hope of tomorrow. If you want something to materialize into your life, focus on it. Concentrating on remembered pain never lets it heal.

Taking delight in wonder and mystery can bring "fun" into even the most sordid and mundane existence.

Afternoon, Bob. Speaking of pain, my family members are home with sunburns.

“Most of the rest of us accept that what doesn’t kill you can make you stronger. Sure there’s pain. There always will be.”

As long as little girls are gang-raped—I will continue to fight and speak out against inequality. So, yes, I know I am stronger in that way. This happened to my daughter at age 15. ‘Pain’ is AN UNDERSTATEMENT. It’s anguish. My little girl didn’t tell me for 2 months. She thought she’d done something wrong, she was at a friends’ house and they were somewhere they weren’t supposed to be. My daughter is mildly developmentally delayed and at age 15, still very innocent.

Sexist men make me sick. You are right, they have NO SHAME.

Maybe some ‘awesome’ dude that gets his kicks raping developmentally delayed little girls will be kind enough to let me know when we are ‘having fun.’

“For many, as long as there is pain, or the memory of pain, no one else is allowed to have “fun” at all. It just isn’t respectful.”

I won’t let go of the outrage because there isn’t enough of it. I won’t accept that this is the way it is because grown men don’t endure this torture. And I and my daughter shouldn’t have to either.

And I can both enjoy life and hang on to my outrage at the same time.

I do appreciate your sentiment, but I am just sharing my experience which is never going to be as neat and clean as your suggestion.

"And I can both enjoy life and hang on to my outrage at the same time."

No you can't. You cannot ascend to Heaven if your hands remain nailed to the cross.

Nursing a pain, or a grudge, tending it and feeding it only makes it grow.

Put it in a closet and close the door. Let it die in the darkness.

Then plant seeds of hope and love. Water them and care for them. Let them grow and flower.

I do not advise forgetting or becoming unwary. Be cautious, but not afraid.

Life is the reward for those willing to live it.

It may or may not surprise you but I am an atheist. Having said that—your sentiment is appreciated and welcomed.

But here’s my sentiment: I am not nursing a pain—I am using it to speak out, make change. And, I am just not forgetting it because that’s the sexist-pigs want me to do. That would be the easy way out.

I will never become complacent. I am fighting for all women, even those who are complacent.

For every time, I encounter sexism meant to perpetuate myths that women are weak—I show my strength, speak from the heart and confront it. By doing so, I sometimes expose sexists for what they are—pigs. If I open even a single eye, it’s worth every bit of the effort.

I don’t think I could even be happy in my own skin if I didn’t recognize, daily, the injustice. I must fight—it’s the humane thing to do for my fellow sisters.

I’ve no interest or fear in Heaven or Hell. Nothing a devil could do to me could be any worse than what I’ve seen in this life.

We all grieve and move on differently—I’ve moved on, but I have not, nor will I ever forget the anguish.

I find that most men recoil in horror when I tell the story of my daughter and my own rape at age, 15, too. We have to end this cycle of victimizing women. I fear one day I will face this again with a 15 year old granddaughter.

Eek, I’ll trade you the fossilised rock tossing creature for the brogue speaking bunny.
He’s kinda creeping me out.
(”Ah-HA, aye laddy!” imagine that in a squeaky brogue from behind twitching nose and floppy ears.)

“And I can both enjoy life and hang on to my outrage at the same time.”

YOU SAID: No you can’t.

I am a much deeper woman than these incidents in my life. I have a multitude of other things to rejoice about. Life is full of all kinds of emotions. Mine are precious to me—good or bad.

When you rape a woman—you wound her forever. That’s why it is illegal and punishable with a lifetime sentence. Greater minds than ours decided it’s so. To them, I am grateful for their compassion.

"It may or may not surprise you but I am an atheist."

I believe impossible things, and am surprised by nothing.

A-theism means having a view of the world in which gods or God are not the actuating mechanism.

To be uncharitably truthful, most of us live our lives that way, at least until Sunday, when we pretend otherwise.

I am not a religious person, but I have been dragged kicking and screaming to spirituality. As a poet, I could not be un-spiritual.

But as a scientist, I won't pretend that I am cudgeled into proper behavior by threats or promises of divine retribution or reward. I can summon reasons to act civilized from my own philosophies, and the wherewithal to act most uncivilized for the same reason when occasion demands.

As a gentleman, of my own definition then, I would not harm you or your "fellow sisters", nor allow any of you to be harmed.

Stand tall and speak fiercely. I watch and approve.

This floored me. Never have I found another regular joe or joesephine that could both articulate this or accept this statement:

“I can summon reasons to act civilized from my own philosophies, and the wherewithal to act most uncivilized for the same reason when occasion demands.”

I find myself using this sentiment to explain who I am regularly, you understand me.

Thank you.

And BTW, you articulate it better than I. My version is too wordy, though still just as clear. May I adopt it and use it?

And let me add, that includes the Atheists I know, too.

Poetry.

"May I adopt it and use it?"

With my blessings.

I don't suppose you'll have any use for this one:

As far as I'm concerned,
... it doesn't concern me.
Doesn't have quite the same gravitas, I suppose.
