It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.
The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.
I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:
Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.
Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

Does the access include Salt River on a read-only basis? Why are you asking me? You're logged in there. Could it be you were wrong before? hrm.
You said it was an anti-freeping site. I am a member there - as Ms. AntiFeminazi no less. No, I'm not afraid to be seen there. Yet, you refuse to answer my question - am I an anti-freeper?

I’m not going to refight the war now.
I read the medical evidence and came to my own rational conclusion; one that is different from yours. That’s your right.
Have a good night.

Hit refresh or try again. The site is new and they’re still working out some software kinks.

Romney No thanks.
Although if it came down between Rudy and Willard, I'd vote Willard. I won't vote for Rudy or John no matter who the Dems put up. There just won't be a viable difference at that point.
Thank the Gods it doesn't have to be that choice though.
Hunter, Tancredo, Paul, Thompson, ect... We have choices. Let's do what we can to make the Right one.

Is it any wonder so many other folks claim that “politics” be left to the professionals and that Americans are incapable of conducting themselves in a manner that is conducive to maintaining a free and open society?

I tried three times. Also tried the password send option, and it says my username does not exist.
Should I close out IE and come back in?

“The Constitution is my “litmus” test for candidates”
A very simple, rational basis on how to choose a candidate.
It is my litmus test as well.

....you and your friends are doing quite well with trying to disrupt FreeRepublic...thank you just the same...Nice deflection. WA posters were plotting disruption to the FR board on a WA thread on the WA board. In this very thread they carried out their plans. The link with their plotting was posted and they immediately deleted the thread from public view. I think it's clear to everyone which posters care about this board and which posters just want to disrupt it.

Is there any constraint on using a hotmail account? That's what I used - I seldom use my Comcast email account and don't recall it offhand.

SJackson: Actually I've noticed the fiercest don't support anyone, whether they could win or not.
I consider myself among the fiercest, certainly, not many others who are 'worse'. I like Ron Paul (because I have for decades). I'm excited about Thompson. I'm interested and intrigued by Romney if I can convince myself he'll keep his promises to us. And I'll even vote for McCrazy, bad as he is, if he can get past us in the primary because I do try to be loyal to the party, however disloyal they are to us after we elected them.
But I don't vote for known liberals. I have even voted against close relatives who merely favored a (unnecessary) bond increase. I don't vote for those who speak in favor of abortion, who opposed the PBA and now pretend not to. I don't vote for those who have been endorsed and funded by NARAL as one of their Champions Of Choice. I don't vote for those who campaigned with the Brady Bunch against our gun rights (RIGHTS!!! I think we should all think about that word. McStain's worst sin is that he is a known enemy of the First Amendment and justly deserves the derision he has earned by his own efforts.) Those are not some mere legislatively granted privileges that can be rescinded. I won't vote for that one Republican who attended Xlinton's Rose Garden signing and celebration of the Assault Weapons Ban. I won't vote for these who use their power in a city or state to launch lawsuits designed to destroy the gun industry. And I will not vote for those who have said, honestly and truthfully, that "Most of Xlinton's policies are similar to my own." Because I believe him when he said that. Some of you must think he was lying to you then. Or else he's lying now. Me, I discard and oppose any candidate that dishonest out of hand. Parsing political speech in such a tortured way is a hallmark of the candidates of the Left.
Now, with the one noted exception, none of those things can be said of McStain, our next most unacceptable mainstream candidate. And I loath to say any nice word about him. But when someone has worked so hard for the enemy and is proud of it, I have no reason in the world to ever support and will oppose such persons as long as I am a Republican. And when the Republicans decide to go full-blown liberal with leftwing candidates to head our ticket, then I will no longer be a Republican.
It's non-negotiable for me. I'm not interested in another variety of liberal to vote for.
Now, after so long here at FreeRepublic, are you honestly going to pretend that any of this is surprising to you? Those are pretty ordinary views for any FReeper and they always have been.
