DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

Oh, I meant to remind you, given that this forum largely chose Alan Keyes as their presidential candidate in 2000, I’m not terribly concerned that this place represents the real world. Far from it. And lately that’s something to be thankful for.

Interesting use of the term ‘brownshirts’. If anyone truly has a fear of ‘brownshirts’—JulieAnnie should be the LAST PERSON they should ever support!!!....lol

You'd think, wouldn't you.

In addition to his leftwing ideology (Brady Bunch leader, Xlinton assault weapons ban conspirator, NARAL Champion of Choice), Rudi is also the most autocratic Republican candidate since Lincoln himself.

Both Lincoln and FDR were these same kinds of autocratic personalities. And the Constitution suffered badly from both. A forum which defends liberty and reveres the Constitution is not the place for such candidates.

I wouldn't compare Rudi to Hitler or Mussolini. The one he really reminds me of is Goering, right down to the furs, feathered boas, jewelry and the rest. It is quite striking if you've read much about Goering, particularly during the war years when his personality flaws and sexual identity issues were given full rein.

But the site owner doesn’t endorse or encourage third party talk so be careful or some of the whiny men (ahem, I’m using that term loosely given their delicate sensibilities) will tell on you.

There are 2 types of Conservatives. Financial and Social.

And interestingly enough, those of us who are Fiscal Conservatives have been forced to compromise BIG TIME in the past 8 years.

But ask a socio-con to compromise and what happens?

Come on guyz.....

The LOL comment was to my posting of Daffy Duck, when Peach lamented about how FR was credited with taking down Dan Rather, but now..couldn't take down Daffy Duck.

Peach in no way is filled with mirth over the seemingly longer Freepathons.

We all wish that graphic would turn yellow tomorrow and go away a day later. ;^)

I wasn't a regular participant here in 2000. However, I assume that you are joking. Right?

The link doesn't come up. And who's the bearded guy in their "symbol" (their equivalent to FR's white star with red on one side and blue on the other, at a diagonal)?

It types "The requested discussion could not be found."

Because of my public support here for Rudy Giuliani, I'm surprised I haven't been banned yet.

Here we go with the martyr complex nonsense again. NOBODY has been banned from here for being a Rudy fan. Not one person.

So, I'll save the Mods the work of monitoring my posts for some "banning offense," and simply ask that they delete my account at FreeRepublic. I don't want to be associated with this site any longer.

The overall conservatism of this site just went up. I almost hope they leave your account intact just to piss you off.

There are more than those two types. Like I said will vote for someone that isn’t just perfect, but on the right of Rudy and embraces a better past of conservative ideas.

If we can do that, it would be great.

The point is that Rudy's support on FR is VERY LOW and the vast majority of FReepers understand that Rudy is VERY LIBERAL. So, it should not come as a huge surprise to Rudyites here that he is being criticized.

Haven’t you noticed how most of the nastiest posters who pretend to be perfect conservatives don’t ever support candidates who have actually announced or could actually win?

The fact that Fred Thompson hasn't announced doesn't mean he's not running.

As far as Hunter goes, I admit it is a long shot; however, his poll numbers are about where Clinton's were in 91 and Carter's were in 75.
