But can her song really be called Country?

Definitely country, but from the old country swing era. I was suprised, actually, that she did as well as she did and didn't sound exactly the same as all her previous performances.

KiKi was hurt the most by the genre, and Chris blew a chance to do a different genre very well.

Phil and Jordin shined bright tonight...

I think it's a toss up on who will go home - between Sanjaya, Chris, and KiKi. Sanjaya Mania may finally be running out of steam.

what was with the attitude on Chris last night too? Evidently, didn’t like not having his rump kissed by the judges. It was very unbecoming and just might have sealed his ticket home tonight.

I WANT HEATHER “GOLD DIGGER” MILLS GONE!
Almost... Almost... I was surprised to see her in the bottom two last night.

I was VERY VERY surprised to see Gold Digger in the bottom two.

Despite whether you like her or not, she works hard and dances well. Add her handicap, she's an inspiration to the handicapped. There's redeeming virtue there, I don't care who you are.

That said, I'm still smitten with the Apollo/Julianne Samba. I've been a closet ballroom lurker all my life, much to the chagrin of Mrs Suhks, I'm just amazed at the level of talent it takes participate. For teenager Julianne to preform at that level and Apollo to rise to that level left me thinking this was THE best dance ever performed on DWTS.

All she proved by singing “Jesus Take the Wheel” is that she doesn’t have the chops to win.

I'm afraid that's exactly what that song accomplished. There are other beautiful country songs out there she could have related to. I mean country music is filled with songs about women who are havin' a hard time in life! There's probably even one about a single mom who works at a bank and sings in the church choir on weekends and dreams of makin' it someday, "for her baby."

Taylor Swift won that award & deservedly so. Talented gal with a bright future.

But giving a "shout out" to V-Tech right after he was panned by the judges seems shallow and self-serving, even if he was being sincere.

Exactly when else could he have done it? He didn't have the chit chat time with Ryan before his performance. I think it was sincere. I bet he would have done it even if he got good reviews from the judges. (Now, the "nasally is a form of singing" was a little much, I grant you. Even though I agree with him).

That song was actually from the 1990's.

That's a tad bit cynical but unfortunately dead on. And I'm a big Kiki fan for that very reason.

You're right. But, it was a country song and definitely had a swing feel to it.

I give Melinda credit for pulling off something different. Other people here think she did the same ol' thing, but this was definitely within the genre and she did a good job with it. I was suprised, actually.

And you're right about Taylor Swift. She's only 17, writes her own music, and is extremely talented. I do like Kellie Pickler's new single, I Wonder. Much better than her red high heels song, imo.

I agree about Heather’s work ethic. Although we all disagree with her politics, Heather has indeed busted her hide learning ballroom dancing and overcoming her handicap to the point where it is hardly noticeable. There was a bit of a reality check when she fell at the end, but her effort has been incredible.

Also, Jonathon deserves props for his instruction and choreography. Man, I don’t know how he handled that wax job. I was in pain just watching that.

This is my first season following DWTS, but I think that if the judges could have, they would have given Apolo and Juilianne 11s. Possibly a 12. Apolo did a fantastic job with the samba, but Julianne was a showstopper. There is no amount of hyperbole that can describe her performance. That was as complete and tight as dance as I’ve seen. I was picking my jaw up from the floor, and Mrs. Lobsta wasn’t even pissed.

Wow...that’s a heck of a bio for a 17 year old kid! Puts me to shame at 49, that’s for sure.

“she’s a genuine artist”
-—Agreed, and who knows how the voting will go, but I do see those two as the two finalists, and I have for the last month and a half. AI is such an interesting show, the psychology behind the way it presents itself is so carefully honed, that I can see them subtly directing a showdown between these two, who happen to be the MOST talented. Unfortunately for Melinda , Jordin happens to be 10 years younger, and that counts for a lot with not only the record industry, but that segment of the voting public that gets more and more excited in the closing 6 or 7 weeks, and wants to be responsible for helping launch the career of a “phenom” like Jordin. I am talking about people who have ALREADY seen their favorites eliminated-—where will their votes go?
That’s what you have to figure out , if you’re interested in projecting who will win. Listen, I never watched the first three years of AI, only tuning into it for the last two. But I have seen Kelly Clarkson in about eight appearances all during that first season on AI rewind, on cable, and what I saw from her was one of the most exciting singers I have EVER seen, and a 20 year old kid. I have to say she was PHENOMENAL, and every single one of her AI performances as the season went on were uniquely thrilling: every time she opened her mouth, I thought “this kid is a singing GENIUS”, and all this has been in the last two months or so, since we’ve tuned into the cable TV presentations of that first AI season. One would NEVER know how good Kelly Clarkson was from listening to her (admittedly great) commercial success since she’s been recording as a “mainstream artist” -—good as the stuff is from a commercial standpoint, hearing
her as an unknown 20 year old was a positive personal THRILL. What I am saying is that the same thing might unfortunately happen to the gifted Jordin. I hope not, but I know they can’t wait to get their hands on her. If I were a record producer, I would try to exploit all her talents and turn her into something unique, starting with the Abbey Lincoln songbook. If you don’t know Abbey Lincoln, it should be easy to find her and hear her early recordings starting from the late 50s.. Jordin , though I have no idea whether she is comfortable or capable within the jazz idiom, reminds me of Abbey, who was my favorite singer as a kid, but has stayed always within the non-commercial realm of jazz. Were I directing Jordin, I would suggest a few songs for her to do in the coming weeks: “Brother , Where are You?” written by Oscar Brown , Jr. and sung by Abbey in 1960, or almost anything else from her early album “Abbey is Blue”, ALSO a great song from the late 70s,early 80s by Dorothy Moore called “I Believe You”. Wish I knew how to communicate with AI and pass on this vital information!PS-—the very slight “knock” against both Melinda and Jordin is that neither of them may have quite captured that distinctly different quality the judges (especially Simon) are looking for—both of them have to push in the coming weeks to claim that territory-—this is a very difficult thing to do-—Kelly Clarkson had it from the beginning, just because that’s who she was already. These two have to both overcome that mysterious insurmountable extra inch that it takes to win. IOW, if the voting AI public collectively wants to assume the mantle of imaginary “recording executive” Jordin will win, if not, Melinda will win.
I refer you to my post of last night #6218, I think it was, where I did a rundown of last nights show. I didn’t state it but it is almost a certainty that Sanjaya returns to highschool tonight. Maybe Chris, but for reasons I stated I think he stays.

“is how I view Melinda”-

nice, very nice,I get your point exactly, and it will be an interesting showdown between these two, as I am almost certain they will be the final two.The “sentimental”choice will be Melinda , the “realistic/cynical/commercial” choice will be Jordin, (who, for entirely incontrovertibly male reasons, has always been my choice)

It seems like every year there is an article about her 'divaness' and the airports.

I do agree with you about Lulu, tough. She seemed like a good mentor and she seemed like a lot of fun and would fit right right in with the show and its panel.

I thought Martina seemed to be a good mentor, too.

I think she chose that song because of the religious angle. I thought she did ok with it. No one is going to sing it as well as Carrie. She sang something current and country. That's what she was asked to do and she did it. Some of the article I have read with reviews about last night felt the judges were too hard on her. I think they might be right. But, that might have got her some sympathy votes. So, maybe it will be ok.

Let's hope. Then he'd have time before the finale to go home and learn another dance move other then seizure-like head bop combined with the non-mic hand pretending to scratch a record.
