You know Stern signed with Sirius over a year ago right?

Yes, I do. But I’m not really familiar with Sirius. Are there no sponsors?

They have subscribers. The appeal of satellite radio is the commercial free aspect of it. I guess it’s a little like cable or satellite TV. You pay a price & can pick & choose what you want. Sirius is paying Stern $500 million. Must be nice, huh?

Lisa Tucker is yet another AI alumni whose career is on the rise:

American Idol finalist Lisa Tucker sings the national anthem before the Los Angeles Angeles baseball home opener against the New York Yankees in Anaheim, CA, in this April 7, 2006 file photo. Tucker has been cast in the Fox drama pilot 'Born in the USA,' which deals with real-life issues of blue-collar families in Philadelphia. Tucker, 17, will play a smart, beautiful and quiet girl with a good sense of humor.

What cracks me up is seeing all the people here who take this show sooooo darn seriously as if the world will end if Sanjaya walks away with the crown. Frankly I think it would be great. IMO the only contestant at this point who has the potential to produce a platinum album is Jordin Sparks. And she will get that record deal whether she finishes first or goes home next week.

Yes, Jordan will get a record deal and a year from now Sanjaya will be all but forgotten.

I'm glad for Lisa, I liked her.

Here's the latest on the song competition.

American Idol Songwriting contest is up and running.

You don’t have to be 16 to 24 to get in on this American Idol journey. And you don’t even have to be able to sing. Just write a magical song, unlike most that have graced the Idol winner’s, and you too could be rich and famous…..sort of.

The contest started last Wednesday and entries will only be accepted until April 17th. So if you want a chance you’d better get on the stick.

You can go directly to the site http://songwriter.americanidol.com Then fill out the info. There will be a $10 per song entry fee. That’s nothing compared to the rewards if you win. There is as of right now no 2nd ot 3rd place just 1st. But the way the rules are stated it sounds like they may end up using the better songs somewhere. (Idol CDs maybe).

Here are some basics. They will have the rights to the song for 10 years. The winning song writer will get $10,000 up front against royalties. After 19 gets it $10,000 back from royalties the songwriter then gets royalties as usual. When you enter it appears that you can only enter one song but when the entry process is done it will ask if you want to enter another song. So if you have more than one to submit, have it ready to go. The song must be an MP3 and it must be on your hard drive where you can browse and attach it just like you would attach a file to an email. I have pulled some of the stuff from the site for to you read if you are interested. Although the rules don’t specifically state it I’m sure you’ll be at the finale compliments of 19 and Fox.

If you would just like to vote you can register to on the same page. So all you would be songwriters go to it. Let’s get a great song this year.

The following info is the property of Fox.com Fremantle, and 19.

The song is the star:

If you want to get your song heard by over 40 million people, there’s one place you need to do it: American Idol – the most watched television series in America.

In the beginning, there was 'A Moment Like This', which hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and went Gold for Season One winner Kelly Clarkson.

Since then, the songs of American Idol have only gotten bigger and bigger. Series Three winner Carrie Underwood knocked Mariah Carey off the top spot with her first single from the show, ‘Inside Your Heaven’ – selling 170,000 copies in its first week before going Platinum. Last season’s winner, Taylor Hicks, continued this success with ‘Do I Make You Proud’, which again rocketed to number one. In fact, all five winning songs so far have hit the top spot.

Take the success of these songs as your inspiration and show us what you’ve got. We’re listening for a song with a powerful melodic and emotional hook that will connect with the American public young and old – a song that can make people sing, dance or even cry. Above all, it must be memorable and feel like a fitting end to this series of American Idol. Don’t miss the chance to see your song in the spotlight.

Lyric Writing: What makes a good lyric for American Idol?

The songs performed by past American Idol winners usually reflect the emotional journey they have gone through on the show. We’re listening for a meaningful lyric that connects with the American Idol audience and complements a great melody and song structure.

Is there any one genre of song that works best for American Idol?

Our show is watched by millions of Americans both young and old, so your lyrics and music need to be accessible and appealing to that audience.

Should I write the lyrics before the music?

Whatever feels right...great songs have been written both ways, and the lyrics and the music are equally important to us.

Should I write with one contestant in mind or should I submit different versions of my song for each potential finalist?

Do neither. Instead you should focus on simply writing a great song with broad appeal. A song that has these qualities can be arranged by our chosen record producer to suit individual singers.

How long should my song be?

Between two and a half and four minutes is best for us in terms of running time.

Recording tips: Do you need a complete arrangement?

A simple vocal recording accompanied by a guitar or piano will be enough for us to hear if your song could work for American Idol. Our skilled production team can then work their magic and complete the musical arrangement around your song if you make it though to our finale.

I don’t have access to a professional recording studio. What do you suggest?

We’re not listening to the quality of the recording, just the quality of the song. Recording a basic vocal and instrument performance at home on your computer is good enough for us. If you need help creating a song file, follow our simple steps here.

My songwriting is a lot better than my singing. Will this hurt my chances?

Not at all – remember, we’re not judging your performance, just the song. Perhaps you know a friend who is more confident in front of a microphone and can help you out. If not, don’t worry, as a great song will always shine through.

Mac Users

If your song is one of our top 20 finalists, please be prepared to provide the original source file immediately.

I can’t wait to vote on my favorite. Actually, I hope I have a favorite. If professionals couldn’t produce a really good one, I wonder how ell the amateurs will do. We’ll see after the 17th.

Is it Tuesday yet?

I don’t think I’ll be entering the songwriting contest.
Not creative enough. Is anyone here thinking of entering?

I thought maybe there might be someone creative enough to give it a shot. I forget who we have here that is in a band. I write poetry but not music or lyrics.

The only song I hate more is that stupid "Hot! Hot! Hot!" song.

I bet Blake is going to sing it. While wearing a vest. Just to taunt me.
