Just thought I’d pop in and say hi! I voted last night for the first time since near the beginning of this season. With the combination of the arrival of our twins and this cr@ppy season, I just haven’t felt much like voting ... but the thought of Blake becoming the new AI galvanized me into action! LOL! So I voted a few times each for Jordin and Melinda. (I think it says something that I just don’t *care* which of them wins!)

FWIW, a tiny bit of analysis... What in the world was Melinda thinking, finishing up with that lame rendition of “I’m a Woman,” which btw was not that great when she did it the first time this season? And wearing that Ellen Degeneres-clone pantsuit? When the backup singers wore sexy outfits that outshone her by far? (And WHAT was that dress she wore for her first song, the bubble-hem number in gray and brown ... made her look like a baked potato!!) I like Melinda, but ya know, I’m not sure she has the fire in the belly to be a true diva.

Blake? Seems like a likeable young fella. Not my idea of any kind of Idol, though. And that was just mean, to make him take on a Sting song. No one is Sting EXCEPT Sting! :)

Re Jordin ... well, that young lady is just a breath of fresh air, isn’t she? And not to be sexist, but if she lost 20 lbs of babyfat, she would be as stunning as a supermodel. I worry about her vocally, though. She did very well on all three songs, and has a great sense of infusing drama in her songs (I especially liked #1) but the strain shows on the high notes. She makes them sound okay, but straining on any notes on a regular basis leads to vocal cord abuse and possibly nodes later on. (Surgery for vocal cord nodes was what finally robbed Julie Andrews of her glorious voice.) I hope that she will realize the danger and work with a very good vocal coach for the next several years, to continue to develop her God-given voice in a healthy way and avoid problems of that sort.

My pick for the winner? No idea, really, but I rather hope Jordin ... except that if she wins, I hope her healthy family will keep her grounded and not let her get a case of “diva-itis.” :)

Elliot’s on tomorrow? Whoopee! That will make the show worth watching! :)

FAB, Tony...we can always count on you! Unless Simon was using his “reverse psych” and getting people to vote FOR Jordin by favoring Melinda. He certainly hasn't been gushing over Melinda the past weeks—if anything, he’s been tough on her.

Combine all that with the fact that he’s never liked someone “under 20” to win the show.

Well, he's in the biz and been successful, so I guess he has reasons that I wouldn't understand. I was so proud of Jordin for speaking back at him last night, don't quite remember what she said, but I do remember she gave him a little bit of lip. It was well called for and I don't think it will hurt her with the voters.

Between "Idol Gives Back", (what a sham) and the judges inconsistent comments, I fear the show has come perilously close to jumping the shark.

Melinda’s outfit—”a baked potato”. ROFL! It’s good to have you back, Hetty.

It was a good show last night. Everyone did well. I wasn’t crazy about some of the song selections, but the contestants did a good job even with those. I haven’t watched AI every season, but I can’t recall a contestant as consistent as Melinda. Thought Melinda did best overall—seemed like she listened to Randy(?)and decided to throw in more vocal fireworks than she normally does. Jordin takes second place—if she makes it to the final, she needs to be very careful with song choice and make sure she doesn’t push her vocals too hard because she can sound piercing at times. Blake takes third tonight—talented guy, just not impressive enough of a singing voice.

I’m still hoping Jordin wins, but Melinda has the most talent, IMHO.

What the heck was the theme last night...prostitution? I heard something about “turn off your redlight tonight”; then “she works hard for the money”, and finally Blake wanting to do all kinds of something to some girl (or maybe to Chris).

Junk music.

Melinda was the victim of a wardrobe malfunction. Was it planned?

Vest Man, ROFL!

Blake should take your suggestion, retro, and open a chain of clothing stores called “Old Men ‘R’ Us”.

I can only imagine what kind of prize you’re going to get from jonny for being the 10,000th poster.

Maybe a babysitting date with Ashley Ferl to watch the finals?

He (Simon) certainly hasn't been gushing over Melinda the past weeks—if anything, he’s been tough on her.

I'm getting to think Simon is the least cruel of the judges. The AI walks into super-star status, after surviving what they knew would be a grueling, and sometimes insulting and intimidating, process. Well, Simon gives it to them, as bad as the press, the fans, and the gossip magazines will. With Melinda, I really think Simon wanted to see if she had toughness and determination, or just would really end up being a very successful backup singer.

I think Melinda, out of the three, showed an ability to do a variety of styles with humor and energy.

But I'm with everyone else here....just about anyone from the top eight last year would be more entertaining to watch. Sanjaya actually helped keep this year's snoozer alive.

Roxanne-Song that made The Police famous. Plea to the girl in question to give up her life of prostitution.

She Works Hard for the Money—Not about prostitution at all. Judging from the lyrics, the girl in the song is a waitress.

When I Get You Alone—Yeah, that one is sleazy cheezy.

Dunno about the wardrobe malfunction.

Spot on, grania. I do think Simon wanted Melinda to prove to herself that she was, indeed, no longer a “back up” singer.

Aw, shucks ... thanks for noticing I was even gone! LOL!

It took me an hour and a half last night (through the magic of Tivo) to watcht the show, since I kept having to pause and deal with a crying babe (one or the other!) because my husband was working late. I’ve started to call them the Tag Team — when one isn’t crying, the other is! And what voices they have ... I’ve decided Gus (the larger — his crying could peel paint off the wall!) is a Heldentenor in the making, and Sam is a lyric tenor. :)

Try americanidol.com or GettyImages. AI will have them under something like contestant pictures or performance pictures. I have no idea what to look for in getty, just that they do have them.

"This Love" is about a guy trying to satisfy his oversexed girlfriend. Lyrics - This Love

So, the theme must have been sex, at least for Blake.
