Here's my take on tonight:
1) So far Memphis is best. The top 3 are Fat Goat boy (Moonshine Head?), Melinda the back-up singer, and the Fidel Castro wanna be. The bald guy with the yoda ears who's wife had the kid was pretty good too.
2) Holy crap! Jack's estranged brother is the head of the blue tooth mafia!
3) "Dreamgirls" was robbed. It should have been nominated for best picture. Jennifer Hudson STEALS the show! Beyonce who?? Fantasia who?? Should be an easy winner in the supporting actress category!
4) President Bush's State of the Union speech was probably his best since January of 2002. But will it matter??

Simon still hasn't gotten over Taylor winning last season.
Simon has to dish Taylor Hicks everytime he has the chance.
First, he asks the kid who was singing with a gum in his mouth to take the gum out and stick it on Taylor's picture behind him.
He goes on Oprah and says that Taylor was not the best singer last season.
Tonight in Memphis, there was a heavy set kid with a goatee named Sundance Head ( whose dad had a #1 hit in the 60's before the Beatles knocked him out of #1 with YESTERDAY ). The kid was good, he sang a not very well known blues song and clearly showed he had a powerful voice.
Simon complimented him and said he'd be surprised if he didn't make the finals. But he had to add this snide remark --- "He blew Taylor out of the park."
Wonder why he's obssessed with Taylor Hicks... is it because he hates to be wrong ?
The Castro Wannabe guy cracked me up - but his voice was great! What a shocker - I can't believe they didnt' tell him he'd have to "clean up"....I wonder what's gonna happen with him.

My first post this year but Sundance and the backup singer were two of the best I;ve heard this year. Sundance had that vocal quality that captured my attention immediately. Then, of course, Simon had to continue ripping Taylor. He still doesn't get it.

Yes he can. Old style blues. great stuff. Wonder how he'll do on ABBA night???
I think his ego is a big part of it. He didn't hide his hatred of Taylor last season. He probably got frustrated that no one was listening to him (he's such a "BIG DEAL" in the music business)& voted for Taylor anyway. He puts too much of his own personal taste into it. Because HE dislikes country music, he shows little or no respect for the contestants that perform it. The strange thing is for all the success American Idol has had, I don't think Simon understands American music at all.
But the way he's made it so personal with Taylor & his sniping, especially with the gum comment he comes off looking like he's 3.

Sundance kind of got on my nerves. I thought he was a little too "showy", and more than cocky. I've never liked my blues singers too smooth, you know? Gotta have some gravel on the road...
Loved the backup singer. She's my favorite female so far. Needs help with her appearance, though (that short neck is a real problem: remember Jessica Sierra from season 3?).
Castro was good, but my prediction is he'll crash and burn. Won't be able to handle the "mainstream" of it all. Anyone who goes out of their way to look like that doesn't belong on Idol.
Oh that program with Fantasia and Taylor was really wonderful. They took calls too. Fantasia looked about to cry any moment. Not sure why, but Taylor looked great. Thinner and very classy. I think Ryan Seacrest was on the first part but I hadn't surfed over to CNN yet and missed him. No great loss!
Seems he has a problem with certain people. Remember that hideous comment to one of the top 10 about being too fat.
He never said a word to Reuben Studdard......he wouldn't dare.
