Free Republic is currently running a poll on this subject:
Do you think creationism or intelligent design should be taught in science classes in secondary public schools as a competing scientific theory to evolution? You can find the poll at the bottom of your "self search" page, also titled "My Comments," where you go to look for posts you've received.
I don't know what effect -- if any -- the poll will have on the future of this website's science threads. But it's certainly worth while to know the general attitude of the people who frequent this website.
Science isn't a democracy, and the value of scientific theories isn't something that's voted upon. The outcome of this poll won't have any scientific importance. But the poll is important because this is a political website. How we decide to educate our children is a very important issue. It's also important whether the political parties decide to take a position on this. (I don't think they should, but it may be happening anyway.)
If you have an opinion on this subject, go ahead and vote.
There is no crow to be had.
Some Red Herring perhaps, but no crow.
My faith in God
IS SPECIAL
BECAUSE
of Whom the faith is invested IN.
Everyone has faith. Sometimes it's in sky hooks; so called random chance plus time; pontificating old liberal Marxist coots in universities . . . seat belts . . .
God gave everyone a measure of faith. It's really quite impossible to live without it.
Dogma: a religious doctrine that is proclaimed as true without evidence."
Hmmmmm. Sounds like science to me.
= = = =
Sadly, far too huge a LOT of science. LOL.
These discussions are NOT about God. They are about science.
I believe that God weeps everytime someone takes His words and uses them to forward willful ignorance.
Who in the world would want you influencing educational policy?
= = = =
Parents who've proven they were well reared and who could demonstrate good rearing practices of their own kids.
SoldierDad, did you serve or does your kid serve? Either way, I think your faith in aeronautics should be nearly equal to your faith in God.
Of are you depending on angels to hold C-17's aloft? And dismissing fuel calculations as simple superstition?
IOW: I don't think you REALLY believe what you just posted.
That want their children to be brought up as scientifically ignorant. \
Your thread has prompted me to adopt a new tagline...
By reducing the Christian (or other religion's) concept of 'faith' to be equivalent with the 'faith' we have that our car will start in the morning is to rob it of all significance in the hearts and minds of spiritually centred people.
= = = =
Hogwash.
But perhaps avoidance or routine conscious ignorance of real Christian faith allows a certain amount of hogwash in one's thinking about it.
I say again . . . the specialness of Christian faith is THE ONE it's invested in. That makes all the difference. And that difference is more than sufficient for any measure or criteria seeking difference as meaningful or worth bothering about.
Life is life. Life in Christ--Resurrection Life is special . . . infinitely special . . . because of THE ONE it's IN.
Otherwise it's just life.
But, hey, even mundane faith is a lot better than the horror of even attempting to live life without faith--as impossible as that would be to go very far with.
Objection! referring to "facts" not in evidence!
and aren't aware of it.
= = = =
More ASSumptions about me! LOL
Never noticed you running around loose inside my psyche, heart, spirit. Fact is, I don't think you've ever been close to any such geography. LOL.
ASSUMING you have can be hazardous.
Must the ASSUMPTIONS about me
always
be as flawed as the ones about evolution seem to be?
At least they're consistent in their flawedness.
The experts "pay" every time their field of study is misrepresented. Either teach biology, which by necessity includes the ToE, or don't teach it at all. Don't lie about the contents of science.
Neither the school boards nor the public has the authority or the competence to decide what is and isn't science. They have the authority to demand or forbid teaching it, but that's all.
Who in the world would want you influencing educational policy?

As I understood it from my students . . . more than 6,000 Chinese parents, for starters.
The broadside was that the quote was false.
It's been demonstrated to not be false.
Sounds like an occasion for crow, to me.
imho,
evolution is the willful ignorance.
But, to the best of my quick recollection, I didn't raise the issue of faith IN GOD, first.
Well I can't very well argue with 6,000 Chinese parents, can I?
I mean, since they understand the difference between Faith and Science and all, right?
That want their children to be brought up as scientifically ignorant. \
= = = =
Not at all.
Though I did catch the slight of hand--
defining
scientifically ignorant as whatever disagrees with you on the topic! LOL.
Ain't THAT scientific! LOL.
Well I can't very well argue with 6,000 Chinese parents, can I?
= = = =
Actually, I haven't seen a lot of
well argued anything on the side of evolution for maybe a decade or two . . . or longer.
Yeah, the Chinese parents were consistently pretty sharp folks. Easy to love, easy to respect.
But, again, you can't put anything up against it except your limited opinion. There is no alternate scientific theory, there is no "willful ignorance."
You realize "this is my opinion" is of extremely limited value, right? If you teach "1+1=3" and say "of course, this is MY opinion" that is still wrong (and harmful).
But, to the best of my quick recollection, I didn't raise the issue of faith IN GOD, first.
That is because there is no dichotomy between belief "in God" and belief in things "of God."
