Something I've noticed about these threads is the underlying fear that resides with those most devoted to either belief. When I say belief, I am referring to a creator, as opposed to no creator. Some of the religious equate evos with Marxist, and think it will lead to immoral behavior. Likewise, some evos equate the religious to fanatics, and believe that it will lead to ignorance and another dark age. Once these two start posting, the inevitable entourage of mud slinging is eminent.

No, this is quite incorrect. I don't know of a single Freeper who matches your description, and you do this debate a large disservice with such misrepresentations.

While it's true that this is the slanderous charge which the anti-science folks make against many science-literate Freepers, no one equates "the religious" as a whole to "fanatics" or harbingers of a coming dark age. Ironically, many of those who are falsely accused of being "God-haters" or "anti-religious" etc., are themselves actually Christians (which just goes to show how ludicrous the slanders of the anti-science folks can be).

There are, however, *specific* anti-science folks on these threads who are indeed accurately described as fanatics and who, if they had their way, would destroy the effective teaching of science in the United States, even if they *think* they're "protecting" science when they attack what they see as "heretical" fields of science.
