Jeb Bush Calls Tone of Immigration Debate `Hurtful' (Official "Bush Picks At Toe Jam" th

WASHINGTON — Accusing politicians of "pounding their chests" on immigration for short-term political gain, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that the tone of the debate had been "hurtful" to him and his Mexican-born wife, Columba.

Bush, the younger brother of President Bush, reserved some of his sharpest criticism for conservatives in his own Republican Party, calling it "just plain wrong" to charge illegal immigrants with a felony, as a provision passed by the Republican-led House would do. He also opposed "penalizing the children of illegal immigrants" by denying them U.S. citizenship, an idea backed by some conservatives but not included in the legislation.

"My wife came here legally, but it hurts her just as it hurts me when people give the perception that all immigrants are bad," the Florida governor wrote in an e-mail exchange with The Times.

NO! Not George P. -- not after he trashed the Border Patrol while in Mexico. Some of us will never forget what he said. According to him, the BP shouldn't be allowed to protect themselves, even with fake bullets.

He has a lot of nerve, and Jeb his father is no better. Enough of these Clinton/Bush "monarchies". Time for new blood as some have said on this thread already. A 3rd Bush is just too much. (Not to mention, a 2nd clinton...)

GEORGE P. BUSH DISSES THE BORDER PATROL
http://michellemalkin.com/archives/000426.htm

Instead, the Associated Press reported this weekend that President Bush's
nephew, George P. Bush, traveled to Mexico in search of overseas votes and
condemned the federal policy of arming U.S. Border Patrol agents with
plastic pellet guns. According to the AP:

"Speaking in a mix of English and sometimes-halting Spanish, George P. Bush
said his uncle was not to blame for the gun policy, which has angered
Mexicans. He instead blamed it on 'some local INS guy who's trying to be
tough, act macho.'"

Bush went further in defaming the character of our Border Patrol agents and
their supervisors: "If there has been American approval for this policy,
that is reprehensible," George P. Bush said of the guns, essentially
paintball projectiles filled with chile powder. "It's kind of barbarous.'

I must be dense then - quick, without looking, what was the topic "du jour" the week prior to that? I don't know what other group was being discussed in the press and elsewhere that week who were being accused of planning to hunt migrant people on the border - I didn't even know the Minuteman Project was being accused of that - are you saying they do, or do not, hunt migrant people along the border? Again, if they are, I would denounce that as well.

Also, if you can find the actual quote from President Fox denouncing those who were "hunting migrants", I'd appreciate it too.

Oh man -- The Bush elists build a straw man -- a racist, lazy American straw man -- and then proceed to bash away. They don't know my neighbors, my family, my friends -- how could they? They're the ruling class and evidently haven't dealt with the little people for so long they don't know who we are other than those "evil" Americans.

O.K., sorry you think that way about actually looking at what they said.

You pleaded ignorance to the matters at hand at the time the comments were made. I had a stake in it and was paying close attention at the time. I heard it. I saw it. I experienced it. Yet, despite your professed ignorance, you continue to pretend that the President might not have said what everyone else clearly understood that he said. I don't understand what point you're trying to make with your foolishness.

Hispanic "illegal" painters that I know personally, earn $15 per hour.

If you are suggesting that this is the rule rather than the exception, you are smoking something. Note the word "typical." Anecdotal experience is meaningless.

I use quotation marks in their description because they produce social security numbers, which are used to withhold FICA and federal taxes. This is FREE MONEY to the federal coffer.

The fact that they use phony SS numbers or pay income tax does not make them legal. Forget the quotation marks. There is no FREE MONEY. Are they paying for their health insurance or health care? Who determines the withholding amounts for income tax? $15 an hour works out to around $35K a year. They are paying more in FICA than income tax. If they have dependents, they probably don't pay any income taxes. How many illegals are paying SS and income taxes?

The National Research Council has estimated that the net fiscal cost of immigration ranges from $11 billion to $22 billion per year, with most government expenditures on immigrants coming from state and local coffers, while most taxes paid by immigrants go to the federal treasury. The net deficit is caused by a low level of tax payments by immigrants, because they are disproportionately low-skilled and thus earn low wages, and a higher rate of consumption of government services, both because of their relative poverty and their higher fertility.

This is especially true of illegal immigration. Even though illegal aliens make little use of welfare, from which they are generally barred, the costs of illegal immigration in terms of government expenditures for education, criminal justice, and emergency medical care are significant. California has estimated that the net cost to the state of providing government services to illegal immigrants approached $3 billion during a single fiscal year. The fact that states must bear the cost of federal failure turns illegal immigration, in effect, into one of the largest unfunded federal mandates.

Comprende, senor?

That's right - I want it consistently over 1 million and growing every year - perhaps you don't understand the words "between 1 million and 1 billion"?

Unless something is done to secure our borders, you will get more than 1,500,000 a year, legal and illegal. I don't know what words your are referring to. You must have me confused with someone else.
